Poor Janey.

My sympathies, but I am delighted that you are not giving up on the therapy  Laughing , just the FFM.

I remember reading (somewhere) years ago that by keeping your tongue on the roof of your mouth it helps to create a seal and keeps your mouth closed. Well, a funny thing, I have noticed over the last few weeks that when I wake up in the mornings my tongue is actually placed on the roof of my mouth just behind my front upper teeth..........yeah I know, I could be losing it  Laughing

Just, it might help.

Best of luck

Daniel

thanks daniel for your support, i've been on nasal masks since i dianosged (sp*) in aug 04.it's taken months to get adjusted to something being on my nose. i have charted my sleeping and time on cpap since oct 18 04 on my computer, including a pie chart. and when i gave it to dr's at sleep clinic they were amazed. but over 196 nights of it is 3 to 6 hours of sleep on cpap and for me it isn't enough sleep. my best # hours of sleep is over 7 ++ hours then i feel human and refreshed and rested. janey

I was about to give up on my full face mask after one week of leaks and rude noises coming from my face over night.  What's the point of sleep therapy - if ya can't sleep?  Anyways, I went back to the sleep center today to find out that all full face masks leak on me and I can still not tolerate nasal masks (deviated septum and narrow bridge of nose), so now I'm going to go with the same FF mask with a Bilevel Bipap.  The technician said that would solve the problem.  My pressure is rather high - 15 - is yours?

Has anyone else had experience with BiPap and FF masks and high pressure?  Does that combo work?

Hi Linnea,

No personal experience with BiPAP, but in Ireland it only normally prescribed for sufferers with other problems such as COPD or CHF. I also think there is the cost factor, as for some indeterminable reason they are bloody expensive.

15 is a 'decent' pressure and it would be fair to say that it might be difficult to handle from time to time. In this regard the BiPAP should prove effective as it will seriously reduce the exhalation pressure. You will still have to deal with the full 15 for inhalation.

Would you be better with an auto adjusting machine or cflex, as I believe that they are cheaper (not sure) and would only deliver sufficient pressure to clear the apnoea events, which might not always need the full 15 ? I think it would be worth discussing ?

Daniel,
I'm not sure what COPD or CHF mean.  I'm new to all this and frankly, confused.  I don't understand the different between my currect cpap with c-flex and a bipap with bi-flex.  I did see that the latter is about 3x the cost, but my insurance will pay for it.  My oxygen saturation dips to 48% and that's pretty frightening.
I love Ireland - what part of Ireland are you from or are you still living there?

Linnea,

COPD is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. CHF is Chronic Heart Failure.

I use a basic CPAP machine, but I thought that the Auto adjusting or cflex would give you a greater degree of comfort than the Bi Level (BiPAP) machine. Maybe I'm wrong..........anyone out there like to chip in here (please).

The drop in sats is worrying, but you need the therapy to be as comfortable as possible.

Daniel
