My Silent Night Experience...

Post My Silent Night Experience...
Long long story short, I have mild to medium sleep apnea as observed via a sleep study and I essentially snore ALL the time.  I don't know all my actual findings(just called the Dr. to get a copy of my sleep study).  I'm 28 years old and am healthy as a horse according to my blood and urine work.  I consider myself about 20lbs. overweight though.  Over the past 2 years I've felt like I was in a "fog" from morning 'till night.  My ex girlfriend often used to say "I thought you died about 10 times last night because you stopped breathing"  I never really put 2 and 2 together untill I saw my family Dr. for my extreme tiredness and he sent me to a Pulminary Doc.  Due to my age and overall health the Dr. wanted me to try a Silent Night before delving into CPAP etc.
The review:
I do indeed feel better during the day, not perfect but better.  I'm more lively in the morning and don't hit a huge foggy wall around 1 or 2 in the afternoon.  I no longer have a girlfriend to tell me how my snoring and/or breathing are at night unfortunately.  I've had the silent night for about a month.  Overall I think it has helped a lot.  For the 1st week or so I found it relatively uncomfortable and I'd remove it for the last hour or so of my sleep each day.  But in that 1st week I felt a lot better and felt well rested.  Since then I can keep it in all night without any problems, and I still feel great.  And before anyone asks, no, I have not gone back for another sleep study to determine the Silent Nights actual effects.  I would love to, but even with my current insurance a sleep study is around $615 out of pocket for me and I just don't have the $$ at this time.  I paid $500 cash for the Silent Night which includes lifetime adjustments/repairs(unless I mutilate it basically)  I have the energy to start working out and am working on losing a few lbs. now to hopefully add to the progress I've had so far.
Just wanted to share my thoughts.
Thanks.

Mark:

You're story hits home.  I am 32 years old/good shape ect.   I have been battling the same symptoms for two years and have been on cpap for four months with no therapeutic effect  ( I only keep it on for three hours).  Let me know more about you're story and if the dental appliance is still working and if you are getting back to normal.  What was you're AHI/Mine was 30.

Post Silent Nite
Hi There,

I'm 59 and have not slept well for several years.  I had a turbanate reduction without success, so I went to Sleepcare Diagnostics here in Cincinnati seeking help.  I was diagnosed with mild to moderate apnea after my first sleep study.  Over a time period of more than three months, the sleep docs tried four different PAP units (cflex, bipap, biflex, apap), four types of masks, and a titration study.  I tired very hard to adapt, and even the docs said that I had good compliance.

However, none of the PAP combinations helped at all, and I think they made me feel worse.  The whole process was very frustrating and depressing.  So I stopped the pap.  My dentist said he can give me a good price on a Silent-Nite, and I'm going to go for it in January.

Mark, is your Silent Nite still helping you?  Have you had any issues?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dennis

FYI
It is my understanding that the Silent Nite oral appliance is FDA approved ONLY for treatment of snoring not obstructive sleep apnea. I know there is some mis-information out there depending on where you look.

Update:

Just wanted to put a quick update here.

I'm still using the Silent Night and I feel that it's helping atleast a little bit.  I can tell I sleep ALOT better, but I can also tell I'm still not getting a consistent full night of sleep.  I broke the little "bands" on the Silent night on two different occasions and have gone back in to have it slightly adjusted and get new bands put on.   I tried 3 different lengths and I think the 3rd time was the charm, they haven't popped off once in about 2 months.  Comfort wise, it's not too bad but not 100% comfortable.  I still sometimes pull it out an hour or 2 before my alarm goes off because if I do wake up it's hard to go right back to sleep with it in.
Overall I'm happy with it.  My doctor said I'm more then welcome to jump over to CPAP if I want someday.  For now I'm happy with the Silent Night.  I also just got laid off from my job so my insurance is done
 Sad
Thanks for reading.
Mark
