Avoid alcohol or any sedating medications or muscle relaxers
avoid back sleeping, most people have more apnea on their back due to gravity
sleep on a 30 degreewedge, or put blocks under the head of your bed, or sleep in a recliner (on your side if you can)
keep congerstion and nasal passages as clear as possible, including a saline spray rinse for the nose
If you have allergy or asthma, take medications to minimize these symptoms
Avoid or reduce smoking if you are a smoker

Call the sleep lab/doctor and tell them how serious your sleepiness is, and ask to be put on the cancellation list.

Ask you physician if he will order a trial rental of autopap while you are waiting if he can't get you in earlier....sometimes these auto adjusting, recording machines can be rented short term.
