Post Test Results: Apnea or other REM issues?
Daniel suggested I post the results of my sleep study, which I recently got a copy of.  It appears my main issue is intrruption of REM sleep.  I had 2.7 apneas per hour, 10 per hour in REM.  My O2 levels were 97.1% on average, with a low of 92.2 (i.e., no long cessation of breathing?).  I had 21 "arousals" from periodic limb movements, and 34 from snoring, mostly during REM.  My sleep efficiency was 68.5%, onset in 31.5 min, and REM latency 97.5 min.  I also had NO Stage 3/4 sleep!  So does anyone have any insight?  I still wonder if my main issue is just aches and pains (multiple neck and shoulder surgeries) are disrupting my sleep more than having a sleep disorder.

The Sleep Tech (waiting on appointmnet with the specialist's nurse practitioner) said that my rate of apneas were "normal".  It also didn't look like my oxygen was really low.  Then again, it seems like I don't get any sustained REM sleep.  I just had my 2nd study done with the CPAP mask.  After a brief panic, I immediately (usually some insomnia) fell deeply asleep for 3 hours, and slept better than I had in years.  After that, however, I spent the next 3-1/2 hours tossing and turning witht he mask bothering me....

Post Maybe...
Hi Russell:
My take is that there's at least one other issue.  Really need to see the entire results, including the sleep architecture graph, in order to hazard an educated guess tho.  Also pertinent medical history and/or medications.

I'm now registered.  I have no sleep architecture graph (what is it) oneither of my sleep test results.  I'm not on any medications other than Nexium for esphogitis, and am not sure what medical history would be relevant.  On my second test, I only had 2% REM sleep, though I finally had Stage 3/4.  REM interruption was absent, though I really had no REM!

I now have a CPAP machine set at 7 cm, per doctor's orders.  I honestly am not sure it is helping; I sleep sounder for a couple hours, but wake up just as much.  And I am still tired, anddon't know how to get more REM...
