This may seem strange..
Our 3 year old has been changed the last few months... sleepy all the time, irritable. Not just the "terrible twos" type thing, but a whole change in her.. OK.. so the last few nights she has come into our bedroom in the wee hours saying she was cold.. we snuggled her back into her bed. Well last night, I finally decided to take her temperature because she always feels so cold when she comes to me in the night.. It was 95 degrees! By mouth and axilla.. This seemed really abnormal to me, I got her in a warm bath, got out the electric blanket and turned it way up. She was having MAJOR pauses in her breathing followed by a gasp. Consistantly 2 normal breathes, then a LLLLOOONNNGGG pause, and that sequence repeated. I didnt think to time them.. Over the next 1.5 hours her temperature gradually increased to 96.5 and her breathing then became normal (almost exactly as she hit 96.5 F) the rest of the night and I kept a close eye on her.. Are body temperature and apnea causative to each other? Is there anything I can do? What is the next step? I do have access to borrow one of those finger pulsoximeters for oxygen saturation level.. would that be helpful? I did call the MD last night, he just said to make sure she keeps breathing, and try to warm her up.. She has NO medical history at all. I am a carrier of the HFE gene, and I have hypothyroidism, diabetes and heart disease runs in my side of the family. I should add that she has had a chronic aweful sounding cough for the last 2.5 months, and was treated with liquid albuteral and prednisolone. It got just a little better. That was 1 week ago when we finished that medicine. Doc wanted to clear asthma. There is NO history of that in either family, and my 1 year old and her and I all got this bad cold which started it off, and mine cleared up but both of theirs have just been on a cycle of exaccerbation, then sounds better like its about to go away, then it comes back.. and so on it goes. I have trouble believing both kids would come down with asthma at the exact same time!.. Her chest x-ray was negative anterior and lateral view. So thats everything! Please guide us what our next step should be and what to do at nightime in the meantime.. Thank you for any help you can provide to us
