Post Just got sleep study, curious about some things
I got A copy of my sleep study after a 3 weeks, but could use some other opinions that anyone has to offer. I will try to post most of the info. However, some of these graphs are tough to read.

Slept 310 min. out of 458 min. for a sleep efficiency of 68%
10% Stage 1
70% Stage 2
19% Stage 3 & 4
minimal Rem sleep
AHI 38.7
02 saturations as low as 77%

cpap trial concluded w/ a pressure of 13

There was no data on snoring, rather I did not seem to snore. Does this seem like a clear case of sleep apnea?, Not sure what other data to post from my study.

It does look like classic sleep apnea. The AHI is significant considering that a minimal amount of REM sleep was recorded.

Saturations are also significant.

Im not sure what else youd like an opinion on.

Thanks for the answer. I guess the term "classic case" says it all. Not sure what I expected, also what the rest of my report means, I will be looking at the other posts to learn more. I suppose I am just coming to terms with what the study has to say.

It sure can be overwhelming. If you have any specific questions, I (or someone else) may be able to answer them. I wasnt sure what exactly you wanted an opinion on, so I just took a general shot at it.

That AHI of 38.7 equates to your experiencing 38.7 apneas and/or hypopneas PER HOUR. That means that less than every 2 minutes of sleep you either stop breathing or experience reduced breathing. This causes arousals from restful sleep every 2 minutes or less all night long. In addition the reduced or stopped breathing was reducing the amount of oxygen in your blood and lungs to as low as 77%. If you were hospitalized and your oxygen saturation went under 90% often or for prolonged periods you would be put on supplemental oxygen. To give you an idea I have COPD (chronic obstructive lung disease) as well as OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) and my 02 desaturations never went below 84% during my sleep evaluation. Optimum CPAP therapy stops these events, keeps your airway open and you don't experience those arousals and oxygen desaturations.

Those desaturations from the apneas and hypopneas alert your brain to respond, your heart rate increases, your body may jerk and struggle in response to the reduced oxygen, your various organs aren't getting sufficient oxygan to do their job properly, they have to work harder w/less oxygen and they wear out sooner.
