Post Another newbie question - had virtually no training/educatio
about this CPAP machine - it was like here it is, go home and enjoy!  So am muddling along.

Now that a helpful one on this forum probably solved my gurgling sound, I have another question.

On the screen, on the top line it shows an hour glass type icon with the "sand" all in the bottom....any clue what that means?

There are right/left arrows on either side of the screen (top and bottom), (bottom looks like pressure setting, so I am really not inclined to touch those, but if I push those beside the top line, will that affect important settings?

Thanks!

I would contact your sleep center and set up an appointment with one of the sleep techs and make them spend the time with you to properly teach you what the controls/displays are and what they mean.

You shouldn't worry about changing your pressure by accident.  Machines are set up so we can't.  If you want to know more about your own machine, look at the manual they gave you.  There is a user manual and a clinician one and they are supposed to give you the user one to go home with.  Without knowing what type of machine you have, no one can help you so post that.  There are settings that users can change on some machines - like C Flex or A Flex and ramp, but not your general pressure.

edit:  if they didn't send you home with the user manual, most of them are online on the company websites so you should be able to find a pdf file pretty easily.

What make and model is your CPAP?

Didn't you get a user's manual with your CPAP?

respironics M series, heated humidifier dom

no manual came with - I usually read and keep those kind of things

I will try the suggestion of finding it online and going back to Sleep Center....

Health care system doesn't make it easy do they!

does it say anywhere what type it is?  Maybe on the bottom (don't turn over if you have a humidifier in it without emptying it first)  Is it an APAP or CPAP?  It might be the same as mine.

Here is a link to the M series FAQs:  http://mseries.respironics.com/FAQs.aspx

Found manual online....

Read all the things I didn't know about - would you believe they never told me about such things as filters? Use with oxygen?  Like how, now that I may have an ear infection, I'm supposed to not use the machine????

I could not figure out the stuff in the back about electromagnetic devices and how close the machine can be....does that mean cordless hones? cell phones?

I think a trip back to the sleep center is most definitely in order!!

Thanks for all your help!

You probably don't need to use it with oxygen.  That is for special circumstances.  Good luck with getting the information you need.  Write your questions down.  I never remember them all if I don't.
