Face mask not working?

Post Face mask not working?
Managed to get my first full night's sleep last night wearing a full face mask, but feel no better at all than I did with the nasal mask. That was not working as I was mouth breathing, I suspect, and suffering leakages.

I am despairing now. The only explanation I can come up with is that this mask was leaking as  well, or maybe my pressure setting is wrong?

I am even wondering if I really have apnea, or have some other medical problem instead, as CPAP just does not seem to be working.

Where can I go from here?

You will probably need to give it more than one night. Your poor body has been sleep deprived for a while and it will take more than one night to began to recover.

Good luck and hang in there.

Richard,

As Lucrenda said, your health has been deteriorating over weeks, months, maybe even years.  Most people take at least a few weeks to begin to feel the subtle improvements.  Try to notice the little things like feeling more alert in the afternoons or not having morning headaches if you had them.  If you do not begin to see improvements in 2 to 4 weeks, then you need to talk to your sleep doc.  My sleep doc has follow-ups one week after starting CPAP to make sure patients can be compliant, then a month later to make sure they are titrated properly and feeling better and then yearly after that.

Thanks. I guess I am impatient, but on the one or two occasions when the nasal mask does some to have worked, the improvement has been quite noticeable. Maybe it was just a fluke, but I suspect it was because I was not mouth breathing on those nights and leakage was minimal. My sleep doc confirmed there was considerable leakage going on and I still had an AHI of 13 with the nasal mask, so it is clear I am not getting the full benefits of CPAP yet.

Hence the full face mask. One night's sleep with it now, so that at least is a breakthrough.
