Post Weird happening last night
Woke up in the middle of the night and was having difficulty breathing, felt like I wasn't getting any air.  kept mask on but did a fair amount of mouth breathing.  There was definitely air coming thru the mask.  I finally hit the ramp-up button, didn't help that much.  Adjusted my mask and that did help.

This happen to other people?  Been using xpap for 1.5 years and don't recall this happening before.

Hi Sheryl!

I do tend to have times when I wake up and breathing is hard.  Sometimes I can relate it to a cold.  Sometimes to what I ate just before bed (you should not snack before bed they tell me).  Sometimes I simply seem to be dehydrated.

As a practical matter it might be a good time to check the filters and such.

Good Hunting!

Sherlynn,

I moved your post to a more appropriate forum where it will get more exposure.

It sounds like you are due for a sleep study.  When was the last time you had one?  I typically get one once a year and have found that my pressure needs always change (up and down).  What you describe, especially the mouth breathing is a classic sign of a need to increase pressure.  To you have nasal congestion like Todzo suggested?

BTW, if your pressure is, most likely, too low, don't use the ramp because that drops your pressure even more.

Thanks Vicki and Todzo.

I currently use an APAP with the low pressure at 13.  My last sleep study was on Oct. 1, it was a take-home study.  I'm still having issues with daytime sleepiness, was hoping that being on the APAP would finally resolve that issue.  Got the APAP in August.

I was on my back and that is when I need my highest pressure and why I went from straight CPAP to the APAP.
Just haven't had that happen before, so it sorta of freaked me out.  I actually think that the mask had slid up and was slightly blocking my nose.  It did resolve when I adjusted my mask.  Was also thinking that I would use those nose strips tonight just in case I am getting a cold.

Thanks, I'll check out the other forum you moved it to Vicki.

Thought I had originally posted in this forum.  Thanks, Vicki.  Well, didn't have any nose strips last night but bought some tonight.  I pushed my mask all  the way up to my nose and couldn't block of the air, actually directed more air to my nose.

I will use the strips tonight as I am coming down with a cold and don't want my nose all stuffed up while sleeping (guess the other night could have been the first sign of the cold.  It was just so weird, breathing but not feeling like I was getting air and yet knowing that air was flowing into mask.  I will remember not to ramp down next time.

Sheryl
