Post is this doctor for real
I am a 56 year old male.  Since my weight is only 128 lbs. and i am in very good shape,  have always taken good care of my self lift weights and ride on the bike trails for 24 miles at a time. I do not wake up choking or fall to sleep during the day.  But i was getting a little tired by 3pm each day. So they had a sleep study done, and now they say i have a sleep apnea,
mild to Moderate.
 Shocked
Oxygen Desaturation was 96.4 to 92.8
No snoring

How am i to know that this people aren't out for a fast buck Mad

George I was also shocked when my Dr said I had OSA.  However unlike you I do snore, but I still thought he was crazy.  They had to show my print out from my sleep study to make me belive it.  But the bottom line is I can see on paper that I stop breathing through out the night and that is scary.  Is there anyway to see your charts, did the Dr. show you and still dont know?  I know the mechaine (CPAP) is not cheap but other then that there really is not money in it for anyone let alone the insurance comany.  If you have OSA and it is left untreated you are leaving yourself open to many other problems.  At least give the treatment a try.  Like you I an in good health, I am only 32.  (I think that is still young) and I work out daily.  But that does not change the fact that I have a small wind pipe and it is being blocked when I sleep.

I hope that you find the answeres you are looking for.

I have seen my last chart after talking to the young lady that did the sleep study.  I have had three sleep study and finaly pased the last one with the bi-cap maching. I just received a letter today to come on in and get my CPAP machine.  But i know the CPAP machine di not work that is why i used the BI-PAP machine on the last test.

It would be nice if the doctor would take the time to go over each test with you and say why you need anought test, but in stead you just get a call for the sleep place telling you that you did not pass and the doctor wants anought test.

Did you get a copy of the sleep study report?  You should have that.  Not only is it your right, but it gives valuable information about your condition.
A doctor SHOULD go over the results with you.  In fact I would demand it before agreeing to receiving any cpap equipment, if I were in your shoes.
This is serious, you should understand your condition before being treated for it.   The only exception is if it is severe enough that they rush to give you cpap ASAP before an appointment can be made.  Not only that, the equipment can be expensive.  Even if your insurance covers all of it, it's important to understand the equipment.  I suggest calling the doctor, and I would go so far as to tell them NO to setting up any cpap until you know what's going on and know your options.

Don't get me wrong, cpap is THE WAY TO GO for sleep apnea treatment.  But it is also very important that you understand your condition as much as possible.  Every other medical condition out there most people have a good understanding of the level of their condition before starting their treatment.  Sleep apnea should be no different.  It is a serious medical condition, that can get worse or be life-threatening.  So it's important to know all you can.    ...... Sorry.  My soap box.

Hi,

Somewhere along the line you must have had an appointment and/or referral with a doctor to have the sleep study carried out. By inference you must have paid him/her.

Well that's where the buck stops. You paid for a service which at the very least should include a full explanation.

I suggest that you follow that up and get value for money.

I know where you are coming from.
Unfortunately there are quite a lot of doctors like that around. The longer people pay them, the worse they get.

Personally, I wouldn't put up with it. Remember the sleep study results are yours, you can always take them to a properly certified sleep doctor.

You are the consumer.....demand your rights.
