Post SLeeping more upright help?
Hi there, I am new to this forum.  If I have sleep apnea, would sleeping in a more upright position help?  I have not officially been diagnosed w/ apnea  but in the sleep study I did they woke me up to put the CPAP on.  At this point I refuse to use the CPAP and am looking for other options.  It took 3 hours to "fall alseep"  with it on for 2 min.  Man was I cranky!  Any thoughts???
thanks

Hi Mich,

You need the full diagnosis first, whether or not you have apnoea, whether it's mild, moderate or severe.

CPAP is the gold standard in treatment.....no question about that. Surgery as an option does not have good results.

Get a copy of your sleep test results and post it.

Suggestions will follow that.

Daniel

The answer probably varies from person to person. It is much easier for me to breathe sitting up than when I am lying flat. The down side is that, after a while, my body gets stiff and tired when I try to sleep all night in a recliner. It's only good for napping for me. My compromise is to elevate the head of the bed by putting 2 x 4s under the box springs at the top of the bed. The whole bed is tilted enough to get a little breathing relief, but I can still lie flat on the surface of the mattress in any position. Very comfortable.
