Post New mask..Is it easy to adapt to Mirage Swift Nasal Pillows?
I called my DME, and found out that my insurance covers a new mask, tube, and filters every six months. I was really excited to hear this.

I have had my cpap for roughly 7 months. I am fully adjusted to it, and fell quite a bit better. The mask I currently own is the Res ComfortGel.

I really would like to try nasal pillows, as my current mask is digging into my forehead. Should I be able to swift will little problems or discomfort?

Or can you suggest another Nasal Pillow system I should try?

Thanks in advance,
John

Hi there!

I just recently started using the Mirage Swift nasal pillows, and they are working out pretty great!  I also started with the Comfort Gel nasal mask, and haven't used it once since I got the swift.  I mainly sleep on my back or on one side, and it works well for this, for me.

As with any mask, though, you will want to try on as many models as you can, and find the one that is most comfortable for you!

Thanks for the reply. My DME will not allow you to try on nasal pillows.  Sad Oh well. My insurance covers the full replacement every 6 months so I went a head and order the Swift pillows.

Hi,

I don't use pillows myself, but you need to be sure of the pillow size (the actual piece that goes inside your nose). I believe that the ResMed system comes with a full set of 3 different sized pillows. You may need to use the largest size, as the smaller sizes can cause soreness in the nares of your nose.

Just to be aware, as the DME suppliers (generally) don't seem to have a clue regarding this.

Kind regards,

Daniel

I like the Swift because it doesnt leave red marks all over my face in the morning, but I seem to have problems with it. It is really easy to pop on and off and I seem to like tearing it off in my sleep so I am sticking with a nasal mask until I am totally comfortable with it. I hope to be able to switch back to the pillows in the future.

Hi I just picked up the Swift yesterday so I can't say much yet, my nose was a little sore this morning and at full pressure (13cm) it kind of makes your nose feel like a baloon, but my main piont was that my DME said that I should use the medium pillow(it comes with 3 sizes) and proceded to try to take the other 2 pillows.  I took them back because I may want them some day, so just a warning in case they try to take yours.
Good luck
Mike

I've had my Swift Nasal pillows system for 3 months and like it alot.  I used a nasal mask at the sleep study and didn't like the heavy feel of it.

As with anything, you have to figure out what setup works best for you..... hose over the head or not....what side to put the hose in...etc.   I did notice that my top teeth hurt every once in awhile....then I figured the headgear was too tight.  Same thing happened with the nose hurting.  Other than that, it's been great.  I love the ease of slipping it on and off...

Good Luck!

This is a very good point . . . I ordered my Swift online, so got all three sizes, and boy was I surprised when the size large fit the best (I have a small nose).  The mediums fit too, but the large is most comfortable.

Not only that, but you or your insurance company is paying for it, so you should get everything that comes with any piece of CPAP equipment, in my opinion.

I found the Swift completely satisfactory; after two weeks with a nasal mask that left my nose bridge raw.

Do you use the Ayr Gel before you put the mask on, or after you take it off?

I LOVE the nasal pillows. I didn't mind the gel mask, but the pillows are 100% better.

Post Nasal Mask vs Nasal Pillow
I am new to CPAP and to this forum. I was given a ResMed system with the Activa (I believe it's called) mask. It's supposed to be the latest thing in comfort. I can't tolerate it. I'm having the same problems as many of you (mask leaks that awaken me, bridge of the nose so sore I can barely tolerate my glasses, etc. etc.)

Most of you seem to use this Mirage Swift System. I'm sure the medical supply house will probably want me to get the ResMed pillow. Does anyone have any experience with the ResMed system? I would appreciate any input.

Post Adapting to nasal pillows
While I use the Breeze head gear with nasal pillows, there should be similarities amongst the the brands. I was given two sizes with the suggestion that I probably should use the smaller which I did at first. A few weeks passed before I decided to try the larger ones, and found them much more comfortable. One observation on the pillows: the part that engages the nose is oval shaped. Several weeks passed before I thought to position them in their mount so they lined up with the openings of my nose. That little adjustment made a big difference in comfort and preventing leaks. Everyone else probably has know that for a long time.
