Post Feeling so frustrated..please help
We found out that my fiance has OSA but the sleep lab wants him to have another sleep study with the c-pap on and won't fit him in for 2 months. Today was one of those bad days when my guy got up early (I wanted him to sleep in) and ran some errands only to come back and fall asleep in the driveway. He does this a lot and I am inside making dinner wondering what is taking so long.

Then after I called him in he dropped our lunch he bought all over the ground! He fell into the neighbors car and the alarm went off and he was dirty from falling on the ground. He was slurring his words and stumbling around and then he wanted to salvage the food. I had to guide him to bed and now he is snoring like a buzzsaw. I am trying to have patience but I am almost in tears. This is so hard to deal with. I feel like my day is ruined and I feel so lonely all the time. He is so stubborn and doesn't want help most of the time which makes it worse. He tries to do too much and then runs on empty. Sad

*** And now to make matters worse I walked outside and the right headlight and his car is smashed. Looks like he hit something or something hit him. he keeps saying a stone kicked up but it more damage than a stone could do. Omg I am losin it. I don't know if he should drive anymore.****

i'm not sure how you can ask IF......of course, he should NOT drive.  I'm so lucky that my husband while is classified as very severe never had a problem with falling asleep in the car while driving.   But with the history your fiance has, take the keys away.  It's the same as driving while intoxicated...dangerous for him, you and all the innocent bystanders.

Don't give up the fight.

Call the sleep lab and ask if he can have a loaner apap until the sleep study.  Explain again his current condition.  I'm very worried for you and him.

You poor dear...   I'm also very worried.  We don't know if he hit an object  OR a person.   Agree with TX ladybug that you plead for an APAP.  An auto cpap (APAP) will adjust to his needs and is used occasionally for inhome titrations.  PLEAD with the sleep doc office AND explain what is happening and that YOU are desperate! His life, or someone else's may depend on his getting treatment now.  OTHERWISE, drive him everywhere.

Get him on the cancelation list for the sleep lab too.  It will be spur of the moment, but they like to keep a full house everynight..and quite often someone either cancels or comes in to do the study but for some reason has to be sent home.  You may receive a call at 10 pm saying come in now.

Post Things are getting better
THANKS everyone who posted responses. I really appreciate it. They say it darkest before the dawn and I have to agree. In desperation I called his sleep specialist, the one that wouldn't give us an appt. for 2 months, and they fit us in the next morning! I was amazed and happy. That was on Tuesday. His specialist said that not only does he have OSA he has restless leg syndrome (RLS) that wakes him up frequently with leg jerks. 226 arousals in 450 Mins are the results from his 1st sleep study. So this upcoming Tuesday we are going to see a lady for an hour consultation and fitting of a c-pap and then she is going to schedule the next sleep study with the chosen c-pap. So finally things are progressing much faster! And I am there with every appt. like his bulldog making sure we ask questions and get help as soon as humanely possible.

He is still driving, which I know isn't good but (in his stubbornness) he won't let me drive him to work. He feels like less of a man because of all of this.We have had several talks about him letting me know when he is what i call "hitting the wall" and he needs to let me do more and help. On the weekends I am driving as much as possible. I know until he gets his c-pap we will have problems like the day in the original post but at least now their is hope. As for his car he says someone must've backed into him at the shopping center and has no memory of anything else. His mechanic agrees. I am not so sure.

Good luck to everyone out there dealing with similar struggles. Thanks again to all you kind people who posted.

Sounds like he has PLMD/s ..this happens during sleep.  RLS is during wake... If the CPAP does nto take care of this they will then script either Mirapex or Requip for it.  These are anti parkinsons meds that are also used for RLS and PLMD/S .

It is good that he has an advocate with him..I have to do this for my husband now....I am at every appointment with him for whatever reason.  I will step out of the room if he feels a need to privately speak to his DR about 'man' stuff..though we have been married 29 years LOL.

I personally feel it is very important to make sure he gets a machine that is data capable...not just showing how many hours he has used it..and not just a card in it to take into the DME or DR.  The machine you need to get has a window on it with an LCD screen...everyday you can scroll through the display and see the AHI (Apnea hypopnea Index) amd the mask leak rate.  This will help you both track his therapy..to see if he is getting the optimal treatment.  If you are in the US ..and have insurance..this machine will cost you no more than a bottom shelf one due to insurance billing codes.  If the DME vendor/store says this is not what the Dr ordered , that insurance won't cover it or they do not stock it.....push for it..you WILL get it.  Most important though is mask fit.

The last thing is...see if you can get him to log on to the help forum and the others forums here at the ASAA... he needs to be educated in this too...knowledge is power..this is one condition that both he and you need to be strong advocates on and very proactive.

Best of luck to you both!

Post The latest good news
Thanks for the reply Mrs. Rip Van Winkle. I forgot to mention in the previous post that his sleep doc prescribed him Requip for his RLS on the day we saw her. That seems to be helping a lot. He isn't waking up with severe soreness in his knees and feels better already. It's great.

I applaud you for being your husband's advocate...it's not an easy job but we love them so it's worth it.

The latest is that we went for the habituation for his c-pap today. He tried on different masks and (for now) has chosen a triangular one just covering his nose. I got the info from the specialist on the models of the mask and machine. It is the Resmed S8 Elite II and the Resmed Micro XL or M Quattro. He felt most comfortable in this setup. The machine does have an LCD screen and I asked the specialist questions about the model and mask.HIs insurance company will cover up to $3500 for the equipment so we are pretty covered with that. He is going for his titration his Saturday night and he was told to tell the people doing the sleep study that he wants the c-pap ASAP. So we are in the home stretch!!!! Thanks for the encouragement.
Now I am just crossing my fingers that the c-pap dramatically helps him and makes a huge difference.

I will also talk to him about joining the forum and telling others about his experience, struggle and the results of treatment.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO OFFERED ME ADVICE & KIND WORDS...MUCH LOVE
