Post First night with my CPAP results
First off, thanks to everyone on this site for all the caring and information. Went to the DME, got my machine, and decided on Swift Nasal Pillows, after bringing in my pillow, and asking the tech to set the machine up so I could try three masks and the pillows, with air, and while lying down.

So bed time comes. I preheated the humidifier while washing my face, kissed my finance goodnight, and strapped it on. Slept for 2.5 hrs, but woke up for too reasons. One was nature's call, but the other was I had turned on my stomach. Got up, remembered to take the mask off 'Applause' and took care of business. Slept for another four hours, but I bet I could have slept more. Stayed on my side the second time. It took only a few seconds to kick out of the groggy stage, compaired to a few minutes. All in all would consider my first night a success. My finance said this morning that she was freaked out slightly, because when she wakes up in the past she could hear me breathe and snore, but I was too quiet last night. I think she will get used to it.

I do have a question for other swift users. My nose between the nostrils, and the area between the nose and my upper lip was sore this morning. Is this something I will get used to? Might my mask be too tight?

Thanks again for all your help, and Merry Christmas to everyone. May you have a Bledded holiday.

Chris

Chris,

Good to hear your positive result, also, more importantly, that you checked out the equipment and picked what you wanted.

What size pillows are you using ? I believe that  the Swift comes with three different sizes. If using small, upgrade to medium and if using medium upgrade to large, no matter what the DME says. That should look after the soreness in the nares of your nose.

Your upper lip soreness might be attributable to straps being too tight, or again the pillows. Try changing pillows first and post back if it doesn't work.

Daniel.

I had the same exact problem in the beginning. I have been on the PAP for two weeks and I too have the Swift. The first three or so nights my nose was sore, try loosening the straps a little, trust me it wont leak. The soreness will go away, its just getting used to it. I also went to the local CVS and picked up Ayr saline nasal gel (any drugstore has it for a few bucks) and put a little on at night and in the morning and it seems to help as well.

My problem was ripping the mask / pillows off in my sleep but its been 2 full nights without taking it off. Hopefully it stays that way.

Post Getting Used to the Swift Takes Time
I generally have no difficulty getting used to a new mask, but the Swift was different - it took a week.  Some of the problem was nose pain; it was so bad I took it off in the middle of night #6 (a first for me - and it was my third mask!).  I awakened ready to bring the Swift back to my DME and ask for something else, but decided to give it one more night.  I slept like a baby that night, and had no nose pain in the morning!

I didn't change the straps at all, and I really don't know why I went from horrible to wonderful in one night.  But I did!
