 Respironics "Fit Life" mask
Has anyone seen the new full face mask by Respironics? It's called the Fit Life.

I can't believe they are claiming that will reduce claustrophobia. I guess everyone's triggers are different, but being completely behind a shield like that would freak me out.

I saw the FitLife at our apena support meeting last night. The Respironics, Resmed and Fisher & Paykel Reps were present w/some masks and the FitLife was one of the masks. A couple of us were concerned about our eyes being covered and subject to the air but the Rep said this mask was trialed in several ICU units and that area of the mask dissipated the air risk to our eyes since we sleep w/our eyes closed. I didn't get a chance to try it so .... I still have my reservations despite common sense says this would have been a consideration as they developed and trialed this mask before introducing it.
The F&P Rep has F&P's new fully data capable APAP that uses a Smart Flash stick. I wish I had had more time to be able to talk to him about it!! He did give me a copy of a full data printout from it but it was a LARGE meeting and there were a lot of people interested in the Opus and other F&P masks so .....
I liked that Resmed Tube cover. Nice slippery feel to it. I've never needed one but at my bi-level titration at my local sleep lab they had a home-made tube cover of not-slippery material and it was a PITA, catching on the blankets, etc. whenever I changed positions. She said it sold for about $15. It slid across the cotton table cloth and a cotton shirt sleeve w/o catching or binding at all.

Hi all, total noob here. Last Thursday I did my CPAP titration study, and they started me on what I`ll call "the Pig snout" mask. I was exhausted that night so I fell asleep easily, but woke from deep REM (tech said so anyhow), I felt like I`d been hit between the eyes with a hammer, lots of pain. The tech said it would take a while getting used to the mask, yada yada yada.
I`d seen a veritable storefront of mask types at the sleep lab, and asked about trying something else, and I described what sounded like it would feel comfy to me, using just the info I had about a mask that I didn`t like as a guide. Evidently I described a "fit life". Next I knew I was wearing one, where I slept the rest of the night away.
The wide top portion allows the weight of the mask to bear across more of my forehead, a large bone, more dense than the bridge of my nose that the Pig snout seemed to bear on. I didn`t feel any pain 3 hours later when they woke me. The bottom curved just under my mouth, and contact there was minimal, with no discomfort at all. I couldn`t feel anything except the foam padding along the sides of my face. All in all it was for me a very comfortable mask. I wanted one.
Yesterday I picked up my CPAP at the DME place, and they couldn`t get a fit life in yet, so they sent me home with a demo mask. It`s supposed to be a "full face", but it`s nothing like the fit life, and I can`t seem to sleep more than an hour to and hour and a half with it on. I wake inexplicably and just need to remove it for a while before I can try to sleep again. Maybe this is normal, but I can`t help but think if I had my fit life things would be smoother. Last Friday, after just a partial night of sleeping in REM sleep I felt better than I have in 20 years. I can`t wait to get back to that feeling, and unfortunately with all the waking I did last night, I don`t think I will until I either just disengage my mind, or get a more comfy mask on, cause the current one ain`t getting her done.
Sleep well everyone

I am using the fit life mask and I like it. No more sores on the bridge of my nose and no leaking. For me it works great. I've tried the comfortgel ff and the ff quattro, the comfort gel leaked and the quattro left my nose sore. I find the fitlife comfortable too. Works for me!

Update.
Day after my first post they called and said the fit life was in, so last night I tried it for the entire night, and went 5 straight hours, awakened for a potty break, then 3 more hours. Up to that point I`d only had 2 1/2 to 3 hours straight with any mask and it was the night of my titration CPAP and it was the fit life. Both the other masks that bore on the bridge of my nose went from less than an hour to under 2 hours before I was awakened with nose pain. I`m pretty sure no matter what I end up using in the future I`m done with any shape that terminates at the top of my nose, or near there.
Sleep well

How was your leak rate value? It seems like it might be hard to seal, but I havent had the chance to use this one yet.

My CPAP machine has a Smart Card, but I don`t have the CD, so can`t tell about leaks yet. Something I`m gonna discuss when I have my follow up visit, and or with the DME company.
While awake, and on waking I am not noting leaks, and the overall pressure to hold the mask fast is much less than with the other 2 masks I`d tried. But to be truthful it may leak when I move during sleep. At this point I`ve no way of knowing yet.

My Doctor gave me a script for the mask this week. Yesterday I called Apria & ordered the mask. They actually told me my insurance would allow for a backup mask~~so they ordered me 2. Should be here in about 4 weeks. Looking forward to trying the mask.
