Post New CPAP User
Hi

Following overnight oximetry test, which suggested SA, i was placed on a CPAP trial 6days ago, but cannot get used to it....

I was fitted with a Respironics Auto M with humidifier and a respironics comfort gel full mask.

I find that the inside of the mask condenses up, leaving my face sweaty, then causing itching.. the mask also leaks into my eyes as i move in bed. This is causing me to wake and i end up taking the thing off. i have tried turning the humidifier off, with no difference. i have also adjusted the straps as per all the instructions.

The nurse has advised that it may be due to the warm weather and to try with a fan blowing.

any help appreciated as i want to get this to work......

Post think about trying a nasal pillow type mask
Try talking to the nurse about switching to a nasal pillow type mask rather than a full face mask.

That might solve the problem.

I am also a new CPAP user. I use the nasal pillow and have a ResMed Elite with a heated humidity chamber.

If your condition and equipment allows it, I would agree with the other post that having just a little, soft cushion up against the bottom of your nostrils vs. a face mask over mouth and nose would keep moisture from building anywhere. The nasal pillow doesn't really have any place for moisture to build---everything's open air with two very, very soft nozzles that fit up against your nostrils. Actually very comfortable, easy to clean, etc.

You sound very dedicated to making the CPAP work for you, so stay on the path!

Best regards,

You just need to keep trying different masks until you find one that works best for you.  I'm still in the process of doing that myself.
