Can I trade my CPAP machine
I've had my Respironics RemStar Plus M Series for a little over a year. My insurance company (UHC) paid for everything. I didn't even see a bill, so I'm not sure who owns the machine. It could be me.
But from reading about machines on this forum, it seems that my machine is "useless" (data wise), since it's not data capable. What are the chances of getting this machine replaced with a more advanced one. And if that's possible, should I go for an APAP instead of a CPAP?
Thanks.

Your chances are somewhere between zilch and nil - unless you are willing to pay out of pocket to buy one online. Most insurnces won't pay for a new xPAP except about every 5 years.

I guess that's the price you pay for being uninformed. Thanks.

Yeah, well, I'm sorry I couldn't have had better news for you. Its a bummer. But that is what the local DME suppliers count on - uninformed first time buyers. You certainly aren't the first, or the only one to be taken advantage of like that so you are in good company.

Same thing happened to me. I have a M-Series Plus which isn't completely useless. I really wish I had a pro though. =(

If it is any consolation, the Plus is quite capable of providing excellent CPAP therapy, just not the data we'd like to have and sometimes need.

if you get your third machine......lol
If you have been on CPAP long enough or... been lucky to get your third CPAP..
( I keep one as a spare).. consider donating your old CPAP to Awake in America....
This is a 501c3 charitable organization working to provide CPAP and sleep apnea treatment to persons without insurance who can not pay for a CPAP.
They will handle getting the donated CPAP refurbished.. they handle evaluating potential receipients for actual need etc.
Its a good organization.

I got handed a Rem Star Plus M too. I have no complaints except no data collection. I'm just not assertive enough to fight with the DME. I bought an Intellipap Auto online and will see if my insurance will reimburse anything. Should have started reading this forum earlier also.

Truckerdad thanks for the info I have one that I need to give away and I HATE to throw it away, selling it is illegal so donating is PERFECT.
I was able to get a data capable after just about a year of the m series but mine was for medical reasons. I needed to go up in pressure but could NOT sleep at the higher pressure. My family doc ordered a new sleep study asking for a trial of bipap. (my sleep doc doesn't like them thus the need for family doc to order). So when I got the new machine I was able to request (no easy task) that it be data capable. My doc had to put THAT in writing and even then it was a difficult task.
