Post 2nd Study, CPAP Titration Complete
Well,
My Cpap Titration Study was completed last night.  I felt like I was awake more than asleep, but I guess I slept engouth for the tech to see events and correct pressure.  Could tell when he changed things around because the mask felt diffrent, and breathing resistance changed.

The ended up putting me on a full mask, I think it was called a Mirage something..  Had some green where the headgear buckled into it.  Also a intresting adjustment on the forehead.

Tech came in at one time and I asked what pressure he had me at, he said 8, but that he thought I might need 11....  Well later it got harder to breathe out and mask started to leak a bit..  Tech came in and tightened the headgear and stopped the leaks.. In the end I found out they they switched the machine from acting like a CPAP to a BiPAP.  Presure for when I breathe in 15, 11 for when I breathe out..  They were able to get me to go a full hour without any events before it was time to get up.  I guess they had me running at 15 on a CPAP but I was still having events, so they are going to stay with a BiPAP.

The tech confirmed that I have Central Apena events.  I guess I get my equipment sometime this next week.  I will probbly do the same mask as I did in the study, even though the bridge of my nose was sore after they tightened down the mask..  I suspect if I had worked with the adjustment on the forehead for the mask it would have helped some.  :p

Congratulations on making it thru the sleep evaluation and titration PSGs and getting on your way to some good sleep w/bi-level therapy!

Now is THE time to call your insurance company and ask them what local DME suppliers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one as that will give you more bargaining/negotiating room to find one that will provide you w/a fully data capable bi-level AND a lenient mask exchange policy AND an RT you will be comfortable working with. Surprisingly, not all bi-levels are fully data capable yet. And w/o a comfortable, relatively leak free mask acclimating to xPAP therapy can be difficult.

If I were you I would also request a copy of not only the doctor's dictated results (1-2 pages each) but also the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs (5+ pages each) from both your sleep evaluation PSG "and" your titration PSG "as well as" your equipment order (script). A copy of the script will do BUT, having the original is even better. You can take that script (if its the original ALWAYS keep the original and just provide copies) to the various local DME suppliers as you shop for the equipment you want. These are all part of your medical records and as such you have a LEGAL RIGHT to them under HIPAA.

If I were you I would also start investigating the various brands and model of bi-levels so that you know which ones are fully data capable and which aren't. Good luck!

Thanks for the response and the advice.

I will do the things you suggested.  This is still all very new to me.  And it's going to take a little getting used to.
