Post Do you think I should get a second opinion?
My son had his adenoids removed last year, he also has normal size tonsils; however, with the sleep study results, the ENT said he needs to have tonsillectomy.  I am just scared that after the tonsillectomy, he will still have apnea.  Should I get a second opinion?

This is his results.

Respiratory Analysis
# of Apn/Hyp Episodes  22  (# of Obstructive Apnea Episodes/hr)
# of Apn/Hyp Episodes/hr. 2.9  (# of Apnea Episodes/hr.)
# of Apn/Hyp Episodes/hr. NREM  2.1   (# of Hypopnea Episodes/hr.)
#ofApn/HypEpisodes/hr.REM  4.7   (Min%SaO2duringsleep(REM/NREM)

# of arousals per hour 10
Total # of arousals 76
Hypopneas 11 in NREM Sleep & 10 in REM Sleep.

Thank you so much,

Anissa

Tonsils can cause problems even if they're not huge.  My dd had her tonsils and adenoids removed in January of this year.  The surgeon said that they weren't abnormally large but that they were covered with bacterial balls (which were causing problems with tonsillitis and sinus infections).  She's feeling better now but still has very fragmented sleep (however she didn't have problems with apnea before either).  I can't tell you what to do but if you're not feeling comfortable with surgery it probably wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.
