does this break the mask's seal?
My mask seriously hurts the bridge of my nose. It is bright red for quite a long time. It almost looks like a blister, but it's not. But when you touch it, it feels like there is a bruise there, even when the redness has subsided.
Will wearing a small bandaid (I'm thinking small square) affect the mask's seal?
I can't deal with this pain anymore.

You have got to get something different. It's awful that you are suffering like this. Have you looked at the masks by sleepnet that are gel? They have several, including a full face called a mojo. I tried the phantom, but could not get a seal around my eyes. but it was soooo soft.

I sleep on my sides a lot. It looks like that might hurt when you lay on your side???
I have 3-4 more months of a mask. I'm going to try to get mine earlier.

Make sure that the mask is really at the bridge of your nose. Way up there at the dip between your eyes. A lot of people who have trouble on their nose have it too low.

I had that exact problem with most masks..... that's when I found the Mirage Micro. which I use with a Medium cushion, but there are 6 different cushion sizes. The cushion sizes were not my problem.... it was the length of the frame from forehead, to just below the nose. They were too long. Put them on the correct place on my nose, and they were too long and put pressure on my upper teeth. Put them where they should be, just beneath my nose, and the forehead piece was up into my hair.
This mask has a much shorter and less wide frame, while still holding standard sized cushion. Check it out.

do you tend to have a round face? Wonder if we have the same type face. I've never thought of my face as "short" but maybe it is.

Lately especially I've had to have the mask almost right above my lip because it gets in my eyes.

I guess I never really thought I had a short face either- not until after 4 1/2 months of mask wars and I finally went into the local DME and they spent hours trying on 20 or more masks/sizes on me. That's when I realized I was not the problem, being too picky, it was truly a fact that none of these masks fit me correctly, mostly due to their size. My face is probably oval to round, I think my bridge area is narrow as a lot of masks leaked at the eyes. Nose is average sized.
I just know that you desperately need a change or you won't continue. No one should have to be in pain just to wear a mask.

thanks! I go to a new doctor at the end of september. I'll plan on getting a new mask after seeing her. I'll research mask a little more and make sure the supplier has all ones I want to try in stock.

Try it! Actually, try moleskin (available in the "foot" dept of your drug store). Most fixes work for some but not all folks. You have to try it out to see if it works for you.

well, I tried moleskin and it helped to an extent. My doctor's appt with my new dr was this past tuesday. she agrees I need a new mask. Well, my current mask has (since then) officially broken the skin on my nose.
So what's the problem? Why not get a new mask? Oh boy, let me tell you!
Monday I managed to get some sort of blistery mess on my face right below my mouth. Went to the dermatologist. Had cultures done because she wasn't 100% positive on what it is. Could be: 1. Impetigo. 2. cold sores on the skin or 3. Shingles.
Well, I can't go try on masks with any of those. I don't get the results of what it is for 2 weeks (which seems like an eternity!), but I am being treated for all three.
So, my question is: what the heck do I do? Should I go without my mask to let my nose heal? Last night I put a bandaid over it and put moleskin on my mask and loosened my mask. Still hurts like hell. It's bruised. It's bright red constantly.

does this break the mask's seal?
Can you wear a nasal pillow mask? They don't hit the bridge of your nose. Some people can't wear them but I love it. I just got a Swift LT for her and it's awesome!
I had a Zest mask at my sleep study and it was terrible. It leaked and I could not get a good seal with it. It also hurt my nose and underneath my nose.
Hope you can find one that fits. I know how this is. I struggled with the original Swift, tried the Zest again and finally got the right fit with this new mask.
Hang in there!!

 Mask's seal
I was experiencing deep indentations on the bridge of my nose and they were very painful. I use a tiny rectangular bandage and all is well.

Carolinagirl - I'm not able to get a nasal pillow mask for the next few days because it's the weekend. With the skin being broken now, it hurts constantly. It was just an indentation, but now the skin has actually busted open. The bandaid didn't do anything last night. I'm just not sure what to do tonight. I'm not so much concerned with breaking the seal anymore so much, but with making sleep bearable until it heals. And of course now I have the secondary problem of possibly having shingles or impetigo so this blistery mess by my mouth makes it impossible for me to try on masks at a supplier.
