Post Newly diagnosed with results
Study results. I have been on CPAP for several months and when asked to describe the difference in a word, the word was 'profound.' I had always suspected that I had apnea based on my sleepiness at unusual times. I sleep on the job. I nap daily with little benefit. My friends know that I'm useless after 10pm. My family expects me to sleep at gatherings. My Wife almost left me when I began to get uncontrollably tired on dates. Sure enough, the study came back with severe apnea. I can say with certainty that the CPAP has changed my life in a very short time. The two most profound differences were in my social and mental engagement tied to my higher energy levels. FWIW, I don't fit the profile. I'm young, average height, weight, and physically fit with a low resting heart rate and low blood pressure. My physicians all say that I have HUGE tonsils, deviated septum, and a large uvula. All of this leads me to consider trying a surgical solution but the more I read the more I second guess the wisdom. Anyways, here are my results. I'd be interested in hearing your interpretation. I'm new to the site and look forward to bonding with fellow sufferers.

I would consider getting rid of the huge tonsils.

Straightening the deviated septum will make daytime breathing and use of CPAP at night easier (you would need less pressure) but wouldn't do anything for the OSA itself since OSA involves the throat airway muscles and tongue, not the nose.

NO way would I allow anyone to remove my uvula. You really can't swallow properly and comfortably w/o it. Some have had the uvula "shaved" (reduced) w/some success. Again, tho, I think mostly reducing the size of the uvula has resulted in less pressure need but not eliminated OSA over the long term. I can't swear on that tho as since its something I have no need to contemplate I don't pay as much attention to posts about it as I do to posts that have info that pertain to my situation.
