Post Can I wear this when I'm awake?
First night last night, nothing too out of the ordinary (based on what I read here).  No fireworks this morning, and I know not to expect that.  But ...

I put the mask on and just laid down to acclimate to it, with the machine running, while awake.  It felt awesome just to do that.  Better than supplemental oxygen.  I had this wonderful visualization - same as I had during titration, but I thought then it was the Ambien!  (No Ambien on board last night.)  It was like I was in a warm lake, floating on my back with just the part of my face covered by the mask out of water.  There was a cool and lovely breeze blowing overhead.  I love to just float like that in the water, so it was a great sensation.

So, are there any problems with wearing this thing while I'm awake? Cool Other than I can't really move around, read, etc.

It is fine to wear when you are awake.  It doesn't do any good when you are awake, but some people wear it to accustom themselves to it.  Some people wear CPAP when they are reading or even watching TV in case they doze off.

Bearded One, my doctor suspects I may have Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome (OHS), also known as Pickwickian Syndrome, in addition to OSA.  So I desat during the day as well as while sleeping.  Since getting my oximeter I've noticed it gets worse late at night, so I'm thinking the CPAP may actually be doing something while I'm awake, too.

I just don't want to do something because it seems good, and inadvertently harm myself.  I've BTDT - with Vioxx.

I haven't been able to find anything yet on using CPAP while awake for OHS, but have found references to using non invasive positive pressure ventilation when the cardiac situation gets bad.  Hoping I never get to that.

In all the studies I've looked at so far, the reason why nocturnal CPAP improves daytime O2 saturation in OHS patients isn't known.  I'm just glad it usually does and am hoping it does so in my case.
