Post Full Data...or Not?? And pillow size...
So, yesterday the DME rep came over and set me up with a Respironics System One Plus 250P with humidifier and C-flex.  When I asked about "fully data capable", he said yes, and that this is the newest Respironics model.  In fact, I was only the second one he had given it to.  It has only one main button to push and you turn it for different menu options.  It also has a ramp button.  Overall, it's going to cost me $650 out of pocket (BCBS insurance pays 80% after my $350 deductible).  I want to make sure it's the right thing!!   Please note that it will be a little while before I can afford the card reader and software, so I cannot test it out right now in any case.

I searched for a long time and really had a hard time finding information on this machine.  In some places, Respironics states that ALL C-flex models have data capabilities and work with the Encore Viewer, but some say it only works with Encore Pro 2.1, which seems to be usage time only.  Does anyone have the real scoop??? And, am I already stuck with this one since I took delivery???

I asked for the Swift LT for Her, but he only had the Swift LT available yesterday.  He said I could trade it out within 15 days if I wanted, and he would order one to arrive by Monday.  He put it together and it seemed to work fine as he demonstrated the machine.  Before I went to bed, I "played" with it and got it adjusted and got used to it.  However, when I went to bed, I could hear my exhales a lot louder, where sitting up it was virtually silent.  I suspected I was leaking??  So I adjusted and fiddled with it for a little while.  At some point, I found relief from the noise when I flared my nostrils.  Eventually, I found the right place and went to sleep.  When I turned on my side, I heard the noise again.  So, I adjusted, flared, etc. again until it was quiet.  However, on my right side, I could never get it to stop.

Also, I have REALLY thick hair and noticed the back strap slipping on several occasions, no matter what degree of tightening/loosening I tried.  I finally pulled some hair over the back strap as I saw in the pictures on the "for Her" model and it seemed to help some.

Is it possible the nasal pillow is too big?  The DME rep said he put the "small" one on.  In the bag there is one more, but it is marked "L".  I had read that usually 3 sizes come with masks and now I wonder if this one is actually the "small".  I also understand the "for Her" model comes with an XS one.

I appreciate any help you can offer on either of these issues!

Thanks,
Lorie

Lorie,
I do think the pillow is too big.  I had the same problem as you did.   My DME recommended using the med. pillow at first but I couldn't keep it in my nose so I went with the small.  The small didn't seem to give enough air flow.  I asked for the LT for her and it worked much better.  It comes with XS, S and Med. pillows.  I was able to use the med. with the LT for her.  I think it's just positioned better for a woman's nose.  Definitely ask for the LT for her.  I think you'll like it better.
I also found that putting some of my hair over the strap helped it not slip.  The LT for her strap seems to come down farther on the back of my head so that helps as well.
Hope this helps some!

Thanks, Angela!  The rep did say they wanted to keep the LT for Her in-stock anyways, so I will definitely get it next week.  I will start with my hair over the straps tonight and see if that helps!

Post This is not a good sign
I left a message for my DME rep to call me as I have some questions/problems.  No call-backs all day. UGH!!!

So I tried pulling my hair over the back strap last night...seemed to help with the slippage, but then the back of my head hurt.  I went to the DME store today and confronted my rep.  He told me no one had ever asked about data before, and he was uninformed.  After a call to the manufacturer, his whole office has been schooled on "full data capable" machines.  My new Pro will be here next week as well as the LT for Her!

Restless Dreamer it seems you are finding out about DME's the way most of us have, you really have to keep on them to get what you want, and often they do not know that much about the equipment that they sell!  It seems the best way is to be the smart educated consumer!  Congratulations it appears that you are just that! I personally feel the more involved in your treatment that you are the more likely you will be successful with it!  Keep up the good work! Your definitely on the right track! Good Luck to You .....White Beard

Thanks for the encouragement, White Beard!  The funny thing is, I feel like I know so very little; having just been diagnosed and just found this forum a couple of weeks ago.  Even so, very little information seems to be more than the DME!!

Now, if we can get Respironics to release the new version of software to go with their new machines...
