Need suggestions for nasal mask with small bridge for nose
I'm fairly new to CPAP, as I've had mine about 6 weeks. I've been through 4 masks (2 full-face and 1 nasal) so far. I have a v-e-r-y narrow bridge to my nose, so the full face masks leaked horribly into my eyes. My current nasal mask is a Petite Respironics ComfortGel. It is anything but comfortable, although it maintains a great seal. I have to have it sit farther down from my bridge, more on just 2/3 of my nose. The bridge area is too tight on the sides of my nose, and my nose hurts all day long.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a nasal mask that will accommodate a narrow nasal bridge?
Have you considered the ResMed Liberty? Nothing fits across the nose. I had problems with leaking around the eyes with other masks and finally tired the Liberty. I love the fact that it is low profile so I can read or watch TV as I fall asleep. I also love that nothing touched the bridge of my nose.
Hope you find something as I know how frustrating it is to find a mask that fits.
Thanks so much, Webbie73 !!! I think that the ResMed Liberty is the last mask that the DME is going to try today. I wasn't sure about that as an option, so I really appreciate your recommendation.
At this point, they've told me that my insurance won't pay for more masks, so this one will be private pay. I'm going to get them to give me a copy of my prescription as a backup so I can purchase some online, which is cheaper than what the DME charges per mask. At this point, I don't care how many I have to buy.
How does the bottom portion fit? The reason that masks didn't fit me is because my chin is narrow (not recessed, just narrow), and the triangular portion of full face masks left way too much uncovered room for leakage.
Was it hard getting used to the nasal pillow portion? My husband tried nasal pillows and he said that he didn't like them. At this point, I think I can get over not liking something as long as it (1) doesn't leak, and (2) doesn't hurt.
droopyeyes The Liberty mask is excellent as is the Hybrid mask they are both very similar, Webbie73 is right about the Liberty mask! I have used them both, and I must have tried at least a dozen or more mask before them. I have the same problem with the bridge of my nose! I have found one mask that is even better than the Liberty and Hybrid, ( and I did not think any thing could be better than those two mask) I was wrong I now use the Respironics FitLife mask! Pure and simple it is the best mask I have ever had! Most comfortable and I get the lowest leak rate that I have ever gotten with any mask. Of course this is just my oppinion, and every one is different! ( my salvation, might be anothers damnation) so in the end is is all about individual choice! But for my money the Fit Life is the very best! It covers the entire face from the forehead down to between the lower lip and the chin! there is no pressure on the nose at all any where! I find that when the mask seal is clean and the face is clean and it is adjusted properly it is the absolute best mask on the market( at least I think so!) Anyway something to think about and consider and maybe check out!
I wish you well with your search for the ultimate mask! Good Luck to You......White Beard

The bottom fits just great. I have the small nasal pillow with the small mouth piece. I also have a small chin too. I found that about every week I have to do a re fit with the mask. No real biggy it takes about 1 minute. I love this mask. The nasal pillows work GREAT for me since I have a deviated septum. The direct pressure into the nose opens my nose right up. My pressure is not high..8.
I hope you had good luck today with masks.

I want to mention something that I learned about from this website and that's Mack's Pillow Soft Earplugs. They are small discs that are like soft, soft putty. I put a disc in my palms and rub together to form a worm like shape then place that around the bridge of my nose (or even on my micro mirage mask). Then I put my mask on, lay in bed and then mold the soft earplugs to the shape of my nose. Works great!
I had several surgeries to the bridge of my nose (broke it) and it's very very tender. These earplugs work great. You have to replace them often (after a week or so, but they come in packs of up to 12. I won't be without them.
