Post TMJ and masks
I have TMJ (temporomandibular joint syndrome)--which translates to jaw joint misalignment and problems.  Has anyone found a mask that works well with TMJ AND doesn't cause pressure sores on the bridge of my nose?  I think the mask I'm using today (and will swap for another one in two days) is putting some sort of adverse pressure on my jaw joint on the right side, and I don't want that to happen.

Hi Ann,

I've never used one, but you might want to check out the Headrest by AEIOMed. No face straps at all. There are lots of pictures of it on the internet. Hope this is helpful.

Brian.

Brian that's an excellent suggestion.  Ann I have the Headrest (formerly Aura) by AEIOmed and love it.  I have TMJ and don't have any problems using this mask.  There are no straps and the pillows butt up to the nostrils nicely.  Ok you may look funny but who cares.  It's very lightweight and you can sleep in any position.

Best of luck,
Melinda

Hi,

Pressure on the bridge of your nose usually indicates that straps are too tight.

A good mask is the ResMed Activa. Straps can be left loose as the air pressure from within the mask creates the seal.

Hi Ann,

Your mask shouldn't be causing you any problems with your TMJ. Unless you are like me and you clench your teeth in your sleep, that can cause problems with the jaw and teeth. I even cracked a tooth once from it!

As far as the mask causing pressure on the bridge of your nose, there are 2 different things I can think of. 1., your headgear is too tight. 2., you can get a new mask cushion, ResMed calls it a "shallow" cushion, that is wider for people who have a wider nose bridge or wider nostrils. You could also try a nasal pillow mask like ResMed's Swift mask. Good luck!

Post Masks / TMJ
I have noticed through trying various mask that I would clench my teeth more with some. With one mask I tried (think respironics comfort gel?) my front teeth would be sore in the morning from my lower jaw pushing against them.
