Post new member - CPAP orientation
I have my orientation on Monday with Apria.  My ENT prescribed a CPAP machine with C-Flex and a Mirage Swift mask.  I have asked for my sleep study results, but so far have not been able to hook up with my ENT (holidays, etc.).  The only thing I really know about SA is what I have found on this site.  I really appreciate everyone's knowledge and experience.  Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the most out of my orientation meeting?  I am going to give this mask a go, but it looks like the same one I used in the sleep studies and I did not like it.  My insurance says they cover the equipment and supplies 100% and to work out the details with my ENT and equipment provider if I needed to change anything.  That sounds too easy.  I guess I will see how things work out in the "real world".  Any insight is much appreciated.

Thanks.

KH

Hi,

The mask is everything. Contact your supplier before they call to you and tell them that you want to see a full range of masks. Don't take NO for an answer. It is not a one size fits all situation.

You do not need a prescription for a mask. Don't feel (and don't be told) that you must use the mask that the doctor prescribed. It is imperative that you are comfortable with whatever mask YOU choose. Masks are interchangeable with different makes of machines. Don't even look at a machine until you get the mask sorted. Machines blow air, but the mask (or interface) will be in long term contact with your face and it must be right.

If the mask isn't right, you will have long term problems coming to terms with cpap.

In spite of what the DME is likely to tell you.........they don't know what is best for you........only you do.

Finally look at the machine............the cflex function is a good idea.

Any more questions........don't hesitate to post.

Daniel.

Good luck with Apria, I found them to be very slooooowww. Regarding your test results, you can get these directly from the place where you did your sleep study. That's what I did. They are required by law to give you your medical records upon request, although I had no problem with them. I simply asked for a copy of my results and they were happy to give them to me.
