Trying to make friends with my CPAP, but it's not having it!
Ok I got past most issues with the CPAP, but there is one final issue I am having. When I cough the machine pushes MASSIVE amounts of air up my nose! I'm basically asleep, so when this happens I rip the mask off and am done for the night.
I think the cough is basically associated with how dry my throat is getting with the machine, even though I have a humidifier. I have a Resmed machine with the integrated humidifier and have it turned all the way up - but I can feel my throat drying out more and more with each breath.
Any ideas?

 Let's be friends
How much water are *you* drinking a day? I'm finding that if I get my four quarts (yes, that is a gallon) I don't have as many dry throat issues. And yes, it means I get up at night, because the rent expires quickly on water <g>.
Also, have you upped the humidity (temperature) of your humidifier? It's a delicate balance between humidity and rainout, but might be worth the try.
I hope this helps.

tosleepperchancetodream,
Which type of mask are you using? If you are using pillows or a nasal mask without a chin strap, your mouth may be popping open while you're asleep. You might want to try getting a chin strap first. If that doesn't work, you can try a full face mask. I use the Respironics ComfortFull FFM. Everybody's different, so what works for me may not work for you. If your mouth isn't popping open on the pillows or the nasal mask... or if you already use a FFM, you might want to try a product I use sometimes called Oral Balance. It's made by Biotene and carried at KMart in the Pharmacy section. HTH.

Diana - ooh REALLY good point! I've been really bad about my water consumption lately, I used to be a gallon a day, not so much lately. I'll give that a try.
SleepyScott - I thought about that as well, so the other night I stayed up with my CPAP on - and after about an hour, I was all dried out so I'm fairly confident it's not mouth breathing.
As always thanks for your help!!!
