Leaks on mask and tubing connections

Post Leaks on mask and tubing connections
Hi -- This is my first time at this forum and I'm amazed at how many of us have similiar issues with our machines.  My concern is whether leaks reduce the pressure needed to assure proper sleep.  I have leaks at the connections of the tube with the mask and with the tube and humidifier, no matter how hard I push to seal the connections.  I also have leaks by my nose if sometimes I turn and move the mask.  I have a Respironics Comfort Select mask.  Thanks to anyone who might have some input.
Betsy

Hi Betsy and Welcome,

I'm no expert, but I would certainly think that any air loss before your mask is going to reduce your pressure and therefore your therapy. Have you tried a new hose?

Hi Betsy. If you have that many leaks and the unit is new I would return to the DME with it and let them sort it out. For the most part the machines will speed up to compensate for small leaks and that would be dependant on how the controller was setup. Still you can have the DME do a manometer test (test for pressure of air) and have them simulate a leak and see if the unit will respond to keeping the pressure constant. The manometer should be connected to the end of the hose that your mask connects to.

Betsy,

Time to contact your DME supplier regarding the leaks in the hoses and joints.

Mask leaks can be a result of too much pressure (straps too tight), but can't speak with confidence for the gel masks. Again your DME supplier should have instructed you how to minimise leaks............time to shout and demand service.

Daniel.
