 which mask????
Hi All. I need some feedback about which mask to buy next.
I have a resmed ultra mirage full face now. No matter what I do I cannot stop it from leaking at the top on the bridge of my nose. I wake up with my eyes all puffed up cuz the thing leaks and blows into my eyes.
Anyway I am looking at the fisher and Paykel full face as well as the respironics full face.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
THANX

 Me Too
Wayne,
I had exactly the same problem with the ultra mirage ff. I've gone to the fisher-paykel ff, and it is much better for me. No more leaks around my eyes (or sore nose). The fisher-paykel is much more comfortable and my wife says it is much quieter also. The only negative thing I have found is that the air that is exhausted from the mask comes straight out the front of the mask and occasionally blows in my wife's face if we are facing each other. But she says it is not that bad and she can live with it.
I can't give you any thoughts on the resprionics, as I haven't tried it. Good luck finding something that works well for you.

Wayne,
Did you adjust the mask (using the angle adjustment in between the forehead piece and the mask) so that the tilt places the top of the mask closer to the bridge of your nose?
If you did that, then IMHO, try the F & P. I use it comfortably and successfully also. If the ResMed mask is only leaking at the bridge, then the Respironics mask might work for you, but it leaked for me as well.

wayne,
I post this advice on many threads here. Everybody has different facial structures, so what works for any one of us might not work for you. You really need to get in contact with your DME and schedule a mask fitting. Take your machine and sleeping pillows with you. Try every mask they have with your machine on and in sleeping position. This is the only way you can tell what will work when you're at home asleep. Keep posting your questions / concerns. We are only here to help.

Wayne,
Try adjusting the forehead support on your ResMed Ultra Mirage. It clicks into several different positions. If your forehead protrudes more than someone else's it may be that the mask is not giving you a proper seal and that is why it is blowing into your eyes. My husband had the same problem. Now that he has adjusted the forehead support he is just fine. Good luck!

Thank you for the posts and feed back.. As I said in the beginning I have tried EVERYTHING. I know about the forehead adjustment. I am not the kind of guy that leaves things un answered. I spoke to the manufacturer and their answer was to put foam tape on the bridge on my nose. IT STILL LEAKS!!
Anywaay enough of my rantin and raving. I ordered the fisher and paykel. It should be here tomorrow.
I will let you all know how it works...
Thanx again

I went through the same issues with the Ultra Mirage FFM and I also had problems with the bridge of my nose getting chewed up.
Since I switched to the Hans Rudolph V7600 FFM a couple of months ago all of the problems have disappeared.
The DME should be able to supply you with sizing calipers to get a proper fit.

 Repironics Sucks.
I have the respironics ff mask and I hate it. It hurts my mouth if I open my mouth the slightest bit. I am switching to the resmed activa. Plus I've heard alot of people that say that the masks break where the head gear attaches.

Sleepy Sean,
I use the Respironics ComfortFull and love it! I have had no issues with the headgear attachments, but that's just me. I offer my encouragement to you to switch until you find something that's going to work for you. Everybody is different in this respect, and the mask that works for me is not necessarily the one that works for you (obviously). I hope you find a mask that you are comfortable and seals properly. When you hit the right combination, it makes all the hardships to get there worth it!

The choice between the Resmed and Fisher Pakyel full face masks is one I have to make now, and it is a coin toss, since the only way I can judge is to look at pictures on the internet and read opinions of others, as here.
This is serious for me, as am having severe apneas, miserable all night long and later rise from bed groggy and with a headache, that used to go away after an hour or so, but now remains well into the morning. The mask I am using, Respironics total face mask (covers nose mouth and eyes too) is extremely comfortable...but it leaks like crazy, even at lowest pressures, and is thus useless. I then went completely the other way, to Puritan Bennet nasal pillows, little plugs that go into your nostrils. They were fine, no leaks at all, and easy to handle. But...the air all escaped out of my mouth, shot out actually. My mouth was as dry as a cactus in Death Valley. Taping my mouth shut (which I did with huge strips) didn't help either - the air just puffed out my cheeks and then shot down into my stomach instead.
Sooo, now going intermediate way - a mask that covers nose and mouth, vs whole head, vs just nose. This should solve problem of mouth leak (since air pressure on nose and mouth is equalized) and hopefully also reduce leaks (since seal area is smaller than the full face giant mask). If this does not work, however, I am a dead man.

Val, I don't want you to be a dead man, so....try making yourself a DIY mouthguard thingy to keep the tongue pushed back, blocking the throat to keep air from escaping through your mouth. Took me several tries to make a working one, but a properly fashioned DIY does work. I use tape over my mouth most of the time, but have a DIY that works well when I want a break from taping.
If you can make yourself one of these, you can go back to the Breeze nasal pillows. A very good interface.

Val I got the Fisher & Paykel and it works great. I could not no matter what I tried get the res med to fit without leaking. Unless you can go to your DME and actually try one out you have figure it out by trial and error. I got the fisher paykel online for $115. While the res med goes for around $145.
As far an the bite guard thing there is actually a dentist in Hawaii that makes those. www.nosebreathe.com I got one and it did not work with the nasal pilows as the air would just find it's way around it and still leak. I know others have had great success with that method, just didn't work for me...
AHHH decisions, desisions....
