Post Cost of CPAP Machine
Hi All.
Just thought i'd throw out a question on the cost of CPAP machines in Canada...Seems the cost of machines here in Canada is much higher than in the US. A Remstar plus with C-Flex goes for close to 2 grand whereas it seems to go for about $500(without mask) in the US. Does $2000 in Canada seem reasonable or do i need to shop around a bit more?

Hi George,

I think you need to shop around. I got a remstar plus with c-flex and a comfort gel mask for a total of $1290 at the hospital in St Thomas Ont. I was also given a spare hose and filter pack because apparently Resperonics throws that in with the c-flex upgrade. I'm sure you can do better than I did somewhere in Toronto. Be sure, however, to see what kind of service and aftercare you are going to get from whoever you choose to deal with.

Be Well,   Brian

Hi George:

The price you were given is much too high. You can get a Respironics Remstar Auto with C-flex and heated humidifier for less and the Auto is a higher value machine. The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) will cover up to $780 of your purchase or 75% of the price, which ever is cheaper. Most DME's will take advantage of that and up the prices. Your employer insurance should cover some of the purchase if the benefits cover it. I would call the program at (416) 327-8804 or toll free 1-800 387-5559 and ask for a listing of the DME's in your area. Don't purchase what they usually refer to as a compliance package because that is really overpriced as well. You can get more info here I just called the DME's and asked them to send me a quote by email (or fax) on the price of the unit I wanted. If you are buying out of pocket checkout (storefront commercial link removed)There prices are excellent but realize that ADP will not cover any part of the cost if you buy outside of Ontario. Good luck in your search.

I live in the states, for the same machine, my insurance was charged $1200 and I have paid $240, I can see I got royally screwed.  I will know better now.  d'oh! , but it does make me angry that the DME suppliers do this.  I know it is all about profit, but really, they need to find profit somewhere else.  Sorry I guess there isn't anything constructive in this post.

Hi Again George,

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I also got a heated humidifier which was included in the price I quoted. DVL  has given you some excellent advice.
