Post ComfortLite-What were they thinking?
Hi,

I've been using a full face mask for almost a year and then had septoplasty which is helping me switch to a nasal system. I've been given a ComfortLite nasal pillow and I like the comfort of not having a mask over my full face. However, the tubing goes over the top of your head to near the back. This makes it very tough because any contact with your pillow and the whole mask moves and leaks. Also, the swivel sticks a lot and doesn't have any give if you move your head.
Has anyone else had this experience?
I'm mostly a back sleeper, but also like sleeping on my side. Are there any better nasal mask/pillow systems for this?

Thanks

Bobby, One wearing option is to "unclip" the hose from the top of the headgear.  This was best for me.  Also, if you run some hot water over the swivel, and work it a little, it will free up somewhat.  You can also put a drop of silicone in the swivel.  I had another problem, with it, that the "bendable" wire on the nasal pillow system, became bent too far, allowing the pillow assembly to come out of the holder. woke in the night with air blowing under my nose, not in it...thanks goodness hubby isn't too grumpy about me turning the lights on in the middle of the night, and fiddling with masks, LOL.
A good back sleeper nasal pillow system is the swift, although, as a side/tummy sleeper, the breeze is my absolute favorite

BobbyV, I think the Resmed Swift is the best of the bunch. It also allows you to sleep on your back with no problems.

ComfortLite - What were they thinking

Good question BobbyV.   I believe Respironics thinks, "As long as we put the soothing word COMFORT in the name, a mask will sell."   After quite a few discards I've learned to avoid buying any mask called "comfort anything."   Laughing

You aren't the only one who has had problems with that ill-conceived swivel, Bobby:

The Swift and Breeze are very good interfaces.  But if you want a really smushy-soft nasal pillows mask that lets you toss, turn; sleep on your side, your back, your stomach; and has the best designed exhaust of all - located above your eyes and pointing straight up so that it doesn't hit bed partner or anything else.... the best one (imho) is Aeiomed's "Headrest" (formerly called the "Aura".)   Aeiomed.com is where you can see it.  It looks bulky in pictures but is amazingly lightweight.

You can read tons of discussions about the "Headrest" (Aura) here:

Not many DMEs (home health care equipment stores) have even heard of the "Headrest", much less stock it.  If someone's DME doesn't carry it, and is not willing to special order a mask, it can be bought from online cpap equipment stores.  It's sold with two sizes of the nasal pillows included - Medium and Large. No prescription is required to buy a mask from an online store.
