Post Motorcycle Riders
With all this talk of sleep apnea I thought I try and move on to something else off topic. Any motorcycle riders in the group here. Missed most of the riding season this year as I started CPAP treatment. Look out for next year. The wife was real unhappy about not going out this year as much. Course she was understanding just we had such a nice summer here in Oregon. Like to hear what you all ride.

Those VTX are nice bike whether there a 1300 or 1800. Know lots of owners with them and they seem to just love the looks an reliability of them. I had to go to Honda's WEB site and check out the C model. The nice thing is you really got a lot of different choices with the VTX line.

The 95 Wings were the older 1500 size engine. I sent your WEB sites off to some people who have the 1800's. They ought to like that.

Been on any long tours on your bike? The wife and me are headed to Billings MT next year for Wing Ding. One reason I had to get my sleeping back under control so I could make these long 2000+ mile rides.

This must be a Honda/OSA site...I have a '98 Honda Valkyrie Tourer.  Same engine as the 1500 Goldwing except 6 carbs and a racier cam.  I'd love a Goldwing some day but for now I really love my cruiser.
My wife and I went for a beautiful fall day ride Sunday.  The weather was perfect - 70 degrees, blue sky, beautiful foliage and that crisp fall air.  It was just in time too!  Monday we had a high of 28 and snow.
We are in Billings MT by the way and will be looking forward to cruising around with several thousand Wing'ers next summer.  Look me up ozone rambler!

Got a 2001 ST 1100. Most comfortable bike I've ever owned. It's been paid for for 3 years and I haven't been looking to trade it yet. That says it all.

My boyfriend's Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1500.  I haven't gotten to ride all year, not because of my apnea, but because I had my foot reconstructed and we couldn't figure out a way to get crutches on the bike.

I won't cry to many tears if the HD (High Dollar, I'm sorry Harley Davidson) crowd don't make it here. I got a friend who has been a biker for many years. Couldn't afford a HD always wanted one but couldn't afford it. Finally got to the point where he could. Went out got a nice 2005 Road King. In all fairness the Road King is a nice bike. We made our yearly get away run to Lake Selmac, near Grants Pass OR, his wife at one rest stop pointed out how friendly the Honda crowd was compared to the HD crowd. She stated how the Honda riders always waved and the HD riders seldomly waved if at all. Back to that 1960's ad for Honda "You meet the nicest people on a Honda".

Farley, I understand that this is the third time that Wing Ding is being held in Billings. Have you ever been there for the other two? I have to tell you this will be my first one. I just joined the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, GWRRA which is also fondly refered to as the Gold Wing Restaurant Raiders Association, and just started planning our trip. You should see us up there July 4th to the 7th. My wife and me are really looking forward to it.

I do want to say and I'm sure that all of you will agree that no matter what bike you own you always adding to it. This year I replaced one light bar and added another, got rid of the chrome around the gauges and gas tank and replaced it with a wood decor, new floorboard for the passenger that raise up on the side so she has different leg heights, new engine guard and radiator guard. Next year before we take off a new Progressive suspension system and tires. I'm sure we all tinker with the bikes when we can.

Vicki you must have been posting while I was as well. Sorry you didn't get to ride this year. Course it stays nice in San Diego so you may get out earlier next year. Boyfriend and you make any long rides before this year? BTW what year is the Nomad?

OZONE,
The last time the Wing'ers were here we were in the process of moving here and opening a business.  We were too busy to even notice anything that didn't happen in our little world.  We did happen to see about 25,000 assorted motorcycles though.
This time we will have to join in a little.  We have been to Sturgis about 5 times and really enjoy people/bike watching.  You are right about Honda owners.  They sure are friendlier and have much less "attitude".  It's funny, my bike will blow away 99% of all unaltered Harleys and I think it looks much better yet they sneer at anything not a Harley.

I've been around alot of HD riders and for the most part they are good people. Course I think part of the problem is HD the company itself is pushing the image. As an example they have a video out on their WEB site titled "Live By It". The company it's self is fostering the image of the riders. Sorry I don't need a motorcycle company, that means any of them, trying to tell me what my image should be.

Look to see you out and about with us Wing riders. I think it's going to be alot of fun. I have a friend here who has been to every one of the Wing Dings for the last 25 years. He loves them. He was gone for 5 weeks this year. It was in Nashville TN and then he took a couple weeks to stop and see family. You might check the local chapter of GWRRA, there are two chapters there in Billings, and see what if you can join one of them.

We have a 2002 Honda Goldwing 1800 with a Bushtec trailer. It was our gift to ourselves when our boys became self sufficient. We've been to Wing Ding and had a great time but most of our fun has been touring the back roads of our great country! Our dream trip is to head south then up the CA coast and then home however the mood strikes us!

Ride Safe!

Ozone,

I live near LA and he lives in San Diego, so the bike isn't here much.  Kelly's life is riding and he puts hundreds of miles on his bike every week.  He always takes a couple of rides with the club every weekend and he routinely tours up North (last trip to Canada) and over to Arizona.  He also teaches the CA motorcycle safety course.

I started my foot process over a year ago when he was starting to really get into it so I haven't done any long rides with him.  Hoping I can soon.

Aunt Nene,

I was raised in Spfd. , went to school at SMS and Un. of MO-Col., have seen the Jopin spook light, tromped all over MO woods, rivers and caves and still have all my relatives there in St. Louis and KC.

Now I'm near LA, so when you make that CA coastal trip, I'll meet you on Pacific Coast Highway for lunch or dinner!

Vicki

Aunt Nene, Love those GL1800. Are you two coming to Wing Ding this year? Get enough of us there we can have a hosehead meeting. Which Wing Dings have you been to?  I have to say Honda has done a great job with the GL1800. We have a Cargo Mate CM2000 that we pull behind our Wing. My wife refuses to travel light on long hauls. Course now I'll have a need to bring along my sleeping equipment. I take it your Bustec is color matched to your Wing? If you ride the 101 Costal Hwy up to Astoria OR, you'll have to stop by.

Vicki, glad to see you got a boyfriend that takes his bike on some long hauls. Since he teaches motorcycle safety that is a real plus. You just can't be to knowledgeable about the dangers and how to handle them. How much longer on the foot? You know it does stay nice down in So. Cal. so you may get an early start on riding next year. My wife is from LA and we spent my last seven years with the USAF at Edwards AFB. We actually lived in Palmdale / Lancaster and really had a good time. If the tax situation in CA was different I might have stayed there just because of the nicer weather. I was stationed in the late 70's at Castle AFB near Merced. Pretty much rode the whole year except maybe Dec. and Jan. were cold. Keep me posted on your progress with the foot.

Vickie.... I'm just south of KC but my grandparents were in Lamar so tromping through the timber and drinking from the Springs was a favorite past time. We took a trip to Eureka Springs last month on the bike and went through Springfield on the way home. Then back to Branson for another last hoopla before winter sets in. Your missing the leaves!!  I'll take you up on that meal invite! We have a son in Bakersfield so we are hoping to do a ride come Spring.

Ozone Rambler... we love our bike and trailer. Yes, the trailer matches the bike. Both are silver. We rode the HD dresser first, but got on the Wing and there was no comparison.  The bike is a 2002 but we just got the trailer this past April. We took a trip to Jacksboro Tenn. to pick it up and had tire trouble on the way home. The 1800 were known for the cupping and it happened so fast.  All is good now. New tires and a few small trips under our belt before winter.  We haven't registered for Wing Ding yet but I have never been to that part of the country so Wing Ding in Billings would be a great excuse to go there. I hear the motels fill up fast so we need to be making up our minds.  Now that I have the CPAP, I'm glad we have the trailer.  We've only been to Madison WI, WD. We were in Nashville just before WD this year and spent a week. I hear it was a lot of fun!

I've been reading the forum and am feeling very fortunate. My nose was sore the first couple of nights but I think I have it adjusted now because it's healing and I'm getting really good sleep. Just a minor thing to get rid of a morning headache and be able to hit the floor running. I hope my luck holds out! I feel so bad for some of these people.
