i have a new question for anyone?
has anyone ever heard of CO2 building up in the blood from prolong use of a CPAP machine. this coming sept i will have been on one for 21 years but now i am having problems with my heart and other things and i was wondering if the CPAP will cause CO2 buildup to cause the weakness i am having.

Dave, unles there is a blockage in the exhalation vent, there is absolutely no reason why CO2 would build up in your system.

I hope that after 21 years you're still not using the same machine.  If so, or if it has been many years since you've had an upgrade, I would strongly recommend you discuss it with your equipment provider.  There have been uncounted improvements in the technology over the past two decades..

Pastordave,

Amigo was right to recommend you get checked out again if it's been years on one machine.
And you may want to consult your doctor and consider having another sleep study, especially since you're having heart problems.
If you're consulting with a heart doctor, make sure the cardiologist knows you have sleep apnea and about any ongoing concerns you might have about your sleep apnea.  I think it's aways wise for all your doctors are aware of your conditions.  Your body may have changed and your treatment requirements, such as the proper pressure, may have changed.  It's good to have yourself checked out.

Good luck.  And keep us posted on what happens.

Linda
