The S8 IIs are newer versions of the S8s and have the new EasyBreathe technology so I would definitely go w/the S8 II Elite or the S8 II AutoSet Vantage.
I'm a Resmed fan so I heartily agree w/your choices. I was started on the S8 Elite and really loved it. I especially liked the easy access to so much data via the LCD screen each morning. I also like the easy access to the integrated humidifier tank for filling, etc. I wish the Resmed carrying case was just a little larger to provide space for our mask to fit safely. My old Respironics Simplicity simple nasal cushion fits in it nicely but there are very few, if any other masks, that there is so little of.
I did get "auto fever" from the forums and did buy a lightly used (505 hours on it) Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage complete and was very happy w/it as well. But outside of the first week of use, used it in straight CPAP mode.
I was recently switched to the new in Jan 08 Resmed VPAP Auto bi-level. It has the new EasyBreathe technology and I LOVE it! Still the same easy access to a lot of data on the LCD screen. Then the dirty birds came out in July 08 w/the VPAP Auto 25 which uses the new, larger capacity Humidaire 4i integrated humidifer. I don't think there were really many changes at all between the two except the extra 5 cms of pressure capability which I don't need and the greater capacity of the Humidaire 4i.
Other than suggesting that you get the S8 II version in whichver you opt to purchase, the Elite or the AutoSet, I don't think you can go wrong. Just make sure you get the S8 II version rather than the S8. The EasyBreathe technology is more than worth it.
