Post Herbst Device Adjustment Help
Hi folks - I'm new to this forum and have been having a bad time with my herbst device.  For the first two years I had it it worked like a charm and reduced my apnea to ZERO.  No joke.  My general dentist had concerns about my bite so I had the guy who made my device move the position that my lower jaw was held back a little.  BIG mistake.  My sleep was bad after that and several readjustments later my sleep has never been the same, and now it seems that there is no hope of ever finding the original position again.  For whatever reason he shaved down the surface of the device so that the vertical height between my teeth was lessened.

So, this is where I am today....  I had him increase the vertical height between my teeth by adding acrylic to the surface of the device which made my apnea WORSE.  Then I added some 1mm spacers to advance my jaw forward more and my sleep seemed ok but my teeth sort of hurt because the vertical height adjustment was almost too much.  So he shaved half of the acrylic he added and my sleep was back to being bad again.  If there's too much vertical space where your teeth are biting down hard on something all night can that cause any damage to your teeth?

I want to go back in and have him adjust again, I just worry that no matter how many times I go in it won't ever be right again and the costs for each visit keep racking up.  Any advice from anyone with a similar experience?
