RESMED PROHIBITS SALE OF THEIR ITEMS ON POPULAR CPAP AUCTION
Quote:
Resmed has prohibited the sale of their items on "----bleep----". Many sellers are working around these restrictions. Until we can enforce the Resmed ban with precision, we can't accept new auctions. We apologize for this sorry state of affairs
.
Resmed needs to get rid of that bleeping idiot they installed at the top and maybe bring Peter Ferrell back. Either way, I've been an avid Resmed fan and it pains me to say this - but - screw Resmed and all the horses they rode in on. I'm done defending them, I'm done using their PAPs. So far I've not had good luck w/the couple of their masks that I tried. Now I will no longer even try one of their masks.
Has anyone checked to see if Resmed has taken on craigslist yet or not? Or are they just bullying one large, well-liked, popular online DME supplier?? Resmed was the first to initiate the Minimum Advertised Pricing policy for PAP equipment, they iniitiated the Manufacturer's Minimum Retail Price for PAP equipment, now this ....
Go on back to Australia, Resmed. You are no longer welcome or wanted here.
DeVilBiss, Fisher & Paykell and Sandman picked a good time to finally start offering fully data capable CPAPs and APAPs.

Crohnie,
This has been on the horizon for a number of years now.
In Europe, ResMed either owns or is part owner of a large number of DMEs, who supply their product. Smaller DMEs are being frozen out. This is what they will continue with throughout the world.
In Europe, they have taken on the online suppliers too.
Auction are obviously next.
Respironics are not 100 miles behind. Once the Phillips takeover and branding is fully complete.......I think you will also see change.
I am attending the ERS (European Respiratory Society) Conference in Barcelona later this month.........ResMed big hitters will be there. I'll see if I can some info from them.
Daniel.

Can you say, "restraint of trade", or how about 'anti-trust"?

Don't think so.
After all, it is prescription related equipment.
They can decide who and how their products are sold.............in the best interests of the patient

What a great marketing strategy, ResMed: continuing to find new ways to anger the most vocal users of PAP therapy on the Internet!
Maybe. Remember if you have something good.........and then tell people that they can't have it......unless of course you buy directly from an approved dealer.......chances are, everyone will want one. Look at Lexus and similar brands.

I suggest that every patient-based apnea forum on the Internet start a new sticky thread entitled: "The Top Ten Reasons I Am Angry With ResMed."
Hardly worth the effort. Every patient that is signed up to a support forum hardly represent a half of one percent of their business (guesstimate)

I bet those threads become the most popular threads about PAP therapy on the Internet.
Wouldn't it be great if every patient that googled "ResMed" landed at one of those threads?
I don't think ResMeds webmasters would allow that happen.

Funny, I am not in favour of prescription medical devices being available on auction sites.......after all it really amounts to online pharmacy type operations.
BTW, I use a DeVilbiss machine............BUT I do use (and love) the ResMed Micro Mask.
Daniel.

My point is that growing numbers of patients do Web searches to find information, and information at some forums does end up landing high in the search results.

They can't control what rises toward the top in the early pages of Web-search results. Obviously forum posts would not be the first hit, but I have often seen forum discussions on such matters rank high on the first page at Google.
Go to Google right now and type in "ResMed" and "auction," for example. (At time of writing, it linked to this site, though the link to this thread was broken.)
Better yet, search "ResMed," "Internet," and "Sales." The second link below ResMed's bogus explanation is a forum discussion of what the policy really means to users.

Daniel.
The auction site I have seen requires prescriptions from doctors to be able to buy there, same as from the online store, and allowed one customer with an Rx to pass on a nasal cushion, for example, of a size not needed, but still packaged.
I have used ResMed products. I wish the company was as good as its products have been.

You must not be involved in ebusiness.
I won't go into the intricacies of it, BUT the top 10 hits on a Google search are VERY MUCH CONTROLLED. In fact the top few pages are the result of actions by various ebusiness geniuses.
They are highly paid, usually result based and driven. There are so many tricks.......evolving every day.
On top of that, Google look after their own customers (big paying ones) also.
Almost 10 years ago, I went back to night school to study ebusiness/web authoring etc. One of the most interesting sections was on 'optomising sites'.........in short, getting them moved up the search engines (we had more players then).
The big players watch their placings closely and take corrective action regularly.
If they feel agrieved or peeved at something, they can optomise other 'friendly sites' to create buffers.
We may think that internet is driven by traffic..........true, but only certain types of traffic.
Daniel.
