Wife not supporting me through sleep study

Art, I have read all the responses and I am surprised how quickly so many have condemned your wife only because she believes your sleep apnea will go away if you lose weight. Trust me there are thousands of doctors in this world who do not no zilch about sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a disease of the western world in the land of milk and honey. Good living good food and junk food and colas and before we know we are like hippos.

May be your wife married a thin and handsome man and she wants him back and I am sure she has been at you to lose weight long before sleep apnea was even thought about. If this is the case she should be forgiven for trying to make her point forcibly now as you have OSA.

I was a slim 65 kilos in 1978 and in 2008 I am a big 95 kilos. Not really fat but there is a lot in the middle. Not that I did much exercise to lose weight. It was not only the life style but also OSA that caused weight gain.

This is the point you have to drive home and OSA causes weight gain and treating OSA is the first step in a weight loss program..

Ram:  Sorry I have to disagree.  Artemis is dealing with a closed mind.  If YOU read all the responses, especially one from Chronie, and mine, weight gain is a symptom of apnea in some people, not all.   Weight loss did not rid me of my OSA, and many people, though they lost weight just using CPAP, very few were able to stop using it, darn few.

Whatever her motivation is, whether she wants her slim jim back again, is not the issue.  It should be the wellbeing of the man who is her mate.  A devoted wife would be encouraging her husband to do what is necessary to stay alive long enough to diet.  She seems to think she has the answer, she does not.  In any time of crisis, you should be able to rely on the person closest to you.

Chronie we have to agree to disagree.

You cannot judge the wife based on one post from Art. It is not as if you and I have spoken to her and tried to convince her and we failed. So let us give Arts wife and his marriage a chance. You cannot jump to conclusion that she does not love him based on a few words written by Art. We need to hear her side of the story too. The jury cannot decide anything just based on the prosecutions submissions.

May be she is using negative psychology so he will get his cpap soon.
who knows ?

You may be right, Ram, but we can only assume that Artemis is telling us the truth of the situation.  Judging from what he tells us, we respond, and if the story is one sided or not accurate that is for him to know.  We can only respond to the facts we are given.

Just to keep things straight, it was not Crohnie who posted, though I mentioned her.  I am Maria7.

Maria even if Art is telling the truth and nothing but the truth he has only winged a bit about his wife and am sure he loves his wife. Don't you Art ?

My husband better too, but no one would ever say anything bad about me, I'm such a lovely person.    Wink

I get what you're trying to say, Ram, but we all got the impression that Artemis posted asking for support because his wife wasn't giving him any and like any conversation, it takes on a life of its own.  I do hope she educates herself with the links members have provided because learning to live and "sleep" with CPAP is difficult enough as it is without encouragement.

When I first got my machine last June, it would have been curbside the next morning but for two things, my husband insisting I give it time and the people on this board who helped me with the problems I encountered.

Sorry to defend Art's wife. but the center post of our lives are suposed to be impervious. It takes some adjusting to have the person you lean on need to do some leaning.  She hears his words but there isn't a place in her head for them yet, She has taken a trip to the state of denile she will be back.

Maybe his wife is scared and refuses to deal with a tough problem which is OSA. My oldest son was Dx'd with autism and I refused to believe the doctors, my own wife. I refused to admit my son had a problem. Not because I didn't believe he had autism, not because I didn't love him. I just wanted him to be normal, to be ok. It took me a long time to come to grips with it and I supported my son in everything he did.

BTW he is 21 years old and works a full time job.

Hi Gang! I've completed my second visit to the sleep lab and got my numbers for the CPAP. They are 10-11. The Tech had me try the pillows and heated humidifier. Sheez, all those wires and tubing sure get in the way since I am a stomach sleeper.  I only had aproximately three hours of sleep but enough time the tech to dial in the numbers. I have to wait a week for the paper work to get to my Doctors office and then I'll get my Rx.

Strange, all day I have been having the sniffles, watery eyes and sneezing. It's an interesting coincidence that the day before I was feeling under the weather. Anyway, I have searched the forum regarding this issue and will try out some of them when I get my machine home.

OBTW, I will not get rid of my wife. I believe she may be a little scared or uninformed as some have stated.  I have read all the links and will discuss this matter when she is open minded. I did tell her I didn't snore during my titration last night and her ears perked up.

Well, I will keep ya'll informed as I progress through CPAP. Thanks for all your good informative comments and the ones about ditching my wife...I laughed! She'll come to accept the CPAP and realize how important it is for our family well being and longevity.

All the best!

Art

Wow Art...did they do the split night study?  Meaning first part without Cpap and second with?

You may have to be on top of the DME so you can get a good ..data capable machine.  Read around the posts...you will want one that has the LED screen that you look at and can see your AHI and leak rate.  You donot have to accept the first one the Dme tries to get off of their shelves to get rid of.  Not all DME's are that way but many are.

Glad your wife is a keeper.  She just needs to learn more about it.  Don't ya love the fact that you will get all opinions  (Ya know the old saying?) on this forum...no one holds back.  At least ou know that we will not pacify you!

Good Luck...ask questions, get the wife on here to read around....you may want to wait a few days for this page to get buried though:-)

Yes, Mrs Rip Van Winkle, they did a split study. Originally my insurance said to do study and tritation on the same night. My Doctor simply wrote a note and my Insurance Co. agreed to do the split. I think the Sleep Study folks would've done everything in one night but it was very difficult for me to fall asleep.

You may need to adjust and raise the humidity in your CPAP.  Insufficient humidity can cause all the symptoms of a cold but it is irritiated nasal passages.[/quote]

I am glad you are going to keep both your wives, the second one being your new bride "cpap".
Once you get used to your second wife especially her hissing and blowing at you all night long you will not want to sleep without her. That is when your first wife has to be careful as she becomes dispensable not the cpap  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes
