The question I have for you is about waking up in the morning after only 2 to 3 hrs. of therapy with a sore throat and sore glands at the jaw joints. Also a dry and hoarse voice as well as dry throat feeling all day. Is this a normal physical adjustment to therapy for a new user?
Note: reason for 2 to 3 hrs. is due to trying to get used to the the sound of the flow generator and the fit of my mask. I am getting those issues figured out. I have a heated humidifier and have tried different settings from max. to none with the same results.
Equipment
RES MED S8Elite
RES MED H3i
RES MED Mirage Quattro
Wear the mask for more hours to get the most benifit.
You have some choices to help with the mouth breathing. You can get a full face mask, or you could tape your mouth or you could try one of those chin straps. You are going to have to try them and see which one works for you the best. Oops sorry didn't notice the mask type being a FF.

I'm sorry, RobC, I don't have any advice to offer at this time. If you don't get some good suggestions here I would suggest that you try asking both your local DME's RT and your sleep doctor or sleep lab staff for help w/this dry mouth, sore throat and jaw issues. Good luck!!!

I don't mean to insult you, but are you sure the humidifier is working? I know when I turn my humidifier above 3 my Quattro mask is a rain forest and the hose has water sloshing back and forth.
I usually have refill the tank every night....you?
Do you know the leak rate ? You can check it on your machine. I'll be nice and give you the magic code, just press the left and right buttons down a few seconds, when "effeciency data" shows on your screen, you can scroll with the down arrow key and get lots of good information. I was on a lot of meds when I started cpap, and even though I was using a ff mask, and had the humidity pretty high, I was waking up with a real dry mouth. When I discovered the data feature, I found out my leak rate was running 2.20, way, way too high. I was doped up and slept right through the leaks. I was feeling better, because the machine does compensate some for leaks, but not as well as I should have been. I fixed the leak problem for the most part, slowly reduced the drugs, and no more dry mouth. If you can't get the data to come up, your doctor has not authorized the data to be available to you. Call the doc up and tell him you want to take advantage of your machine's neat capabilities. Virginia

Duh! Virginia!! GOOD ON YOU for noticing Rob has the Resmed S8 Elite!!! I completely missed that! Color me red-faced!
Rob, Virginia is RIGHT ON! If that button combo doesn't give you the Efficacy Data, call and get access to that Efficacy Data ordered and set. It is referred to in your Users Manual as either the advanced patient menu or detailed patient menu. I forget which. If necessary take your manual w/you and point that out to your doctor or sleep lab staff so that the staff can get the message thru to your doctor. (Some of these doctors are NOT aware of all of the options and capabilities of today's CPAPs).

First , I want to thank all of you for responding to my first ever post in a chat forum.
Neil, no offense taken. I do believe my humidifier is working because I normally turn on the preheat (warm up) 30 min. prior to use and see water droplets hanging on every surface inside the chamber, even on the top. Maybe the difference between your rain forest and my lack thereof is a difference in pressure settings.
Virginia, thanks for the heads up on the leak rate I will check that tonight.
Crohnie Too I agree with your comment about medical professionals and the equip.
We, through our own research learn more about our equip. than any doctor has time to do.
Thanks to people like you,WE can do it!
Some food for thought,
YOU are your best primary care giver.
YOU know YOU better than anyone.
Rob, the data from your machine logs over to the next day at 12:00 noon, at least thats what Chrohnie says, mine seems to log over at 3pm, can't figure that one out. Anyway, you should be able to get the last weeks data tonight, individual days data will have to be accessed before noon tomorrow. I hope this helps, and good luck, Virginia

Virginia, can you check the time on your CPAP? Maybe the time has been set wrong. On the Resmeds you have to check the time via the Clinician's Menu.

Uh, maybe so, maybe not. It doesn't matter much to me now, I usually take a nap before 3 anyway, and I don't mind the data being on the previous day. If it bugs me, I'll look into changing it. Virginia
