Post do I need a cpap with this weight loss?
Hi All, I am a newbie and had my first study in April diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea.  Since that time I have lost 20+ lbs.  I was not overly obese (5' 7" 171 lbs - now 5' 7" 149 lbs and still plan to lose more) and I had liposuction on my chin fat and lost 2" there.  I also bought a wedge pillow.  My husband says I have quit snoring and he thinks I am breathing fine now with my changes.  I went in for the 2nd study with cpap last week.   I told them about my changes and I guess I slept on my back (usually sleep on my side) most of the night with a 94% oxygen.  I was given a prescription with a 7 cm H2O; c-flex setting (?) of 3 with ramp 15-20 minutes.  I think I spent most of the night at a 6 and went up to a 7 during the latter part in REM.

So....I have searched this site and cannot find anyone with a 7 cm H2O.  What do you all think?  Do I need a cpap machine?

Thanks for any info you could provide.

If you were given a prescription for 7 cm h20, then yes it appears that you still need CPAP.

Wehile weight loss is showing that it can dramatically reduce ones OSA, it doesnt seem to be proving that it will help get a patient off of CPAP all together.

Yup. I was started at 7 cms of pressure. And I have COPD. I did end up being upped to 8 cms of pressure after I had been on CPAP awhile and FINALLY found a compfortable mask. Sometimes after getting thru the adjustment period of sleeping w/CPAP that many of us go thru it is found that we need a little "tweaking" of the pressure to get to "just" the right pressure for us. Lets face it, these RPSGTs really do a great job of finding a pressure that will work for us given the "novelty" of sleeping w/all those wires and leads and a mask and air pressure we aren't used to in unfamiliar surroundings knowing someone is keeping an eye on us and adjusting the pressure thru out the night ...... its really quite impressive that more of us don't need some minor pressure adjustments once we've adjusted to sleeping at home in our own bed w/our own CPAP and a comfortable mask.

Post Thanks!
Hey, I was trying to figure out a way to avoid this machine.....anything I can do to make it easier and not use it would be great.  I had a divit in my forehead for 2 days afterwards and I guess I will live with a permanent dent in my forehead.  great.  Always wanted a dent in my forehead.  yup I am whining.

Well, I guess I better bite the bullet and get one.

The difference between buying these things in town and online is about double!  Insurance only pays $1,000 and I would ahve to foot the rest at $900!  I think I will find out what they want in town and the selection and then order online.  Sounds sort of like a scam to me.

Thanks again for your advice.  Looks like I will be a active member here soon.
