Post Today's the Day!
Well, I leave here in ten minutes to get my new apap and mask. I got myself a nice little bedside tray to hold it, a surge protector bar for its power needs, brought home two bottles of distilled water, and bought a small bag of scrunchies and hooks for trying to make it all work over the next days. I even found out my local pharmacy has ayr gel and bought some and some nasal irrigation stuff (same stuff I used to use so I know it works for me).

I have my list of ideal masks and machines in the car along with a form for the doc to fill out to see if I can get an allowance on my electricity from my power company. I even packed a book in case they are running late.

So, now I am set to start my new life. I am very excited and hopeful. I have read many stories about how it takes a while to adjust but even a few hours of less interupted sleep would be welcome. I will let you all know what I come home with and put it in my sig when I get it here. I am hoping to talk them into prescriping the software and see if my, generally good, insurance will just cover it as a whole package.

Wish me luck!

Congratulations, Crossfit, you certainly have all your ducks in a row! Good luck on getting the equipment you want. But I can almost guarantee your insurance is NOT going to pay for the software and cable reader regardless whether you have a script for it or not. May we be pleasantly surprised and you do get it and get it paid for .... but ... don't get your hopes too high on that score.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what equipment you get. I hope it is EXACTLY what you want!!!! If ANYONE has done their homework and headed in to get their equipment PREPARED, it is you!! I'm impressed.

I did it!  Well, not the software part but the rest.

Well, I am home. I got the machine I wanted. Its the M series with A Flex.  The guy walked out with the other auto I was looking at but when I said I wanted this one, he just said okay and went and got it. While there are DME's where I live, my doctor stocks equipment for those who want to buy there. That is what I did. Apparently they just give out autos to people who's insurance will cover them rather than trying to deal with CPAP as they like the options with an APAP.

The tech was also great about setting everything up just the way I wanted to and went through the whole process with me and making sure I saw what she was doing.  It felt really good.

The mask I came home with is  the Swift LT.   The one I was looking at, the comfort lite, was too top heavy for my head shape and my long fine hair. It just slipped all over.

Now I need to get my software and data card reader and I am set.

Crossfit,
I loved your post about how you got ready to bring home your machine. Sounded like you were going to bring home a puppy!  Great attitude! I hope it all goes well for you!

The Swift Light is a good choice...hopefully you will not be a mouth breather.  I also have an Auto M...though mine is a BiPAP.

Grandma..I was thinking the same thing...like getting things ready for a new kitty though!

Keep us posted Crossfit!  The help section to this board has a lot of tricks available for just aobut any situation you may encounter!

This is my report for the first night.  I post on multiple forums so sorry if you have seen this already.  Don't mean to spam, just keep all my communities informed.

Well, I did not die. Even though there were a few occasions where rainout gave its all to drown me. That, however was my worst problem. I ended up with a leak rate below the manufacturers expectations so I believe I have a good fit and appropriate leak rate. My AHI was 5.4 which is a whole lot better than the 61.4 I had untreated. Room for improvement of course. Average pressure turned out to be 11.5. My guess is that the low pressure of 4 is too low to ramp up when I need it higher but I am not going to mess with anything until one week is up - plus then I will have my software and card reader for better quality data.

I slept for two four hour chunks and after the second one, I woke up feeling more awake than I had in years, though still exhausted. I debated waking up but then went back to sleep without mask and now I am a bit groggy from untreated sleep. I won't do that again. I even had a dream that I knew I should wake up and put my mask back on but didn't do so in real life. My nares feel fine right now but were a bit dry when I woke up. The back on my throat is a bit sore - I expect that is from the dry air since so much of the moisture was condensing in my hose. I did turn the heat up one level in the night but it only seemed to add to rain out. My heated hose is coming over night.

I just bought a heated hose and am looking forward to less rain out. So far so good.
