Post Concentrated apnea events
In looking over the Encore Viewer data, I was noticing on several occasions that my obstructive apneas are pretty good over all for most of the night, then for an hour they get really bad and drive up the nightly average.  The episodes don't really coorelate to a high(er) leak rate at that time.  Is this typical?

Hi Yawn!

I would be suspicious that it is.  I remember from my sleep study that when I sleep on my back my AHI is 90, much less in other positions.  I also think it varies a lot with how I hold my chin (probably more chin down),

Just some thoughts.

It can be.

In a lot of cases apnoea events become more pronounced and numerous during REM Sleep. Some sufferers report a higher incidence of events during the last 60/90 minutex of sleep, which normally corelates to an extended period of REm Sleep. The time spent in REM Sleep gets longer as the sleep cycles pass.

Weird that you should say that today of all days, Daniel! I recently noticed that I consistently do better the LAST half of the night than the first! I took me a while to catch on to why. At least I think I know the reason why. I have COPD and just before bedtime is when I use my Advair and Spiriva inhalers. I am assuming that it takes 3-4 hours for those inhalers to take full effect. The effect is consistent across all parameters as well: minute ventilation, leak, pressure need, respiratory rate and tidal volume.

What a dull world it would be if we were all the same!
