Since I started using CPAP a little more than a year ago, I have noticed a distinct lowering of my voice.  My tech when I asked told me yes, it was due to the CPAP.  I have not seen this ever mentioned here.  I'm wondering has this been noticed by anyone else?  I really hate people thinking my husband has answered the phone.

I think you should ask your doctor, who has more education and experience, rather than your tech.  It is difficult to understand physically how that would occur.  Additionally, I did a literature review looking for that issue in all published medical journals and nothing came up.

My concern is that a change in your voice is due to a more serious cause, a tumor on your vocal cords for example, and should be thoroughly evaluated by an ENT.

I worried a bit about this when I started, but the only change I noticed is that the huskiness I used to have the first couple of hours after waking up is gone. So is the clearing of the throat until 10:00 a.m. which I now know were caused by difficulty breathing during the night.

Maria7 I agree with Vicki if you have a noticeable change in your voice, then you should have it checked out. I can't believe using CPAP would cause it  and I would really question the tech that told you that! There can be host of different reasons for that to happen, but it is not something you should ignore and let go! So I hope you can get it checked out soon! Good Luck to You!
