Post Newbie Question
I have sleep apena with a score of 18. I only have a problem when I lie on my back. I have been sleeping on my side with no problem however I have been extremely exhausted. Can this be from sleep apena even when I sleep on my side with no problem?  Thank you.

Yes. You may not appear to have any problem on your side, when in reality you are arousing at various times, which ultimately keeps you out of slow wave sleep. The purpose of slow wave sleep has not been proven, so I will not say much about it other that your body needs it (about 10-20% depending on age). Also, you may be suffering from REM events on your side.

When was your last sleep study?

My last sleep study was about 4 years ago. I have CPAP but haven't been using it. When I wake up in the morning I have a cup of coffee and almost always fall back to sleep within a half hour. I am 55 years old. I usually dream but my dreams are strange and repetitive. Thank you for your response, any other advise would be appreciated.

Is there a reason that you are NOT wearing your CPAP unit?

Rdb....ya gotta get on that xPAP...sounds like you have now gotten worse most likely due from NOT using it.  Looks like you will proably need another sleep study too..been so long and with untreated apnea...bound to be worse.

Glad you found us...so much info on here...it will open your eyes to what SA is really all about.

If you don't use cpap, your apnoea gets worse.

In your case, another sleep test is probably required (at least another titration). I think you will find that your apnoea has deteriorated.

Daniel.
