I have been using the cpap resmed s8 elite 2 for only 3 days...and haven't been able to keep it on--I keep taking it off during the night.  I am a tummy sleeper and am trying to become a side sleeper.  I am using a nasal mask with a setting of 11.  I find myself trying to open my mouth to breathe.  Also this is kind of crazy but the 2nd night at the sleep study center (1st time on a mask) the next day I had a stye beginning in my left eye...and today I woke this morning with another stye in my left eye.  Haven't had styes before!  Am I doing something wrong?  Thanks for the help

Can you talk to your DME (assuming you're working w/one) about looking into full face masks??  The Resmed Quattro seems to be pretty comfortable....  Is there by chance an air leak by your eyes??  Maybe the mask slips up or down at night while you're sleeping....  There are lots of people on this board who have much more knowledge than I do.  Hopefully you'll hear from some of them soon.  Hang in there.

I really am new at this What is a DME?  I have a sleep doctor, the sleep clinic and a sleep technician that fitted me for the mask.  I know that I was quite surprised to be diagnosed with severe sleep apnea...I had 49 episodes per hour and 300 leg movements.  I know that even though I only had a couple hours of sleep at the center with the cpap I was quite refreshed the next day and didn't need a nap.  I will call them tomorrow about the mask situation.  I need to call for my son as well they gave him nasal pillows with an autopap.  But his pressures when I have looked during the night are at 10.8 so I don't think the pillows are good for him.
Thanks to all for the help.  I really had no idea what to expect!

DME...Durable Medical Equipment..also used to reference the equipment vendor.  If your sone has an APAP and his pressre seen during the night was 10.8...most likely means that that was the pressure needed at that time...most likely does not mean anything is wrong.  What was his titrated pressure?

For you...if you are opening your mouth...you may need a chin strap or need to tape your mouth at night....or you may do better with a full face mask.

The stye...a nasal mask can add some pressure to your sinuses.  There is a sticky at the top of the Help forum on how to irrigate the sinuses...this may help some.
