Post G'day from Korea. Anyone had success with SomnoGuard?
G'day from Korea:

My first time on this site. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I have mild obstructive sleep apnea and some moderate periodic leg movements. As I write this I'm my usual sleepy self: you know the drill, sleep all night, sleep most of the day, and still wiped out. But we keep on fighting the good fight right? For example, I'm back into exercise yet again, even though I have ended up losing what I gain every other time. But I refuse to give in, one of these days I'm going to make it and if I don't, I'll go down fighting. Loved that statement in the latest Rocky film, about the fact that nothing hits harder than life, and it's not about how hard you can hit but how hard a hit you can take and still get back up again. I've spent a lot of time it seems flat on my back after life sucker punched me but I refuse to stay down.

I've picked up some really interesting playmates for my apnea: dyslexic (diagnosed at age 34), Meniers hit in 1995 and mate that really made my head spin, cyclic depression since I was around 12 years old (that I hope is linked to the sleep apnea because if it is it goes when the sleep apnea goes), bouts of insomnia just to keep it interesting. I live in hope that one of these days I'll get proper sleep and then have energy for all the things I long to do. When you lose good sleep you lose so much don't you? But I am so thankful, because if you are going to have these things I've got the best kind, manageable. I still get to live a fairly good life. My heart goes out to others who have the extremes of these conditions, talk about your true heroes! The fact that any of you guys are still walking and talking makes you all champions in my book.

Anyway, I'm posting because I'm thinking about trying out SomnoGuard. I'm in Korea so I'll be ordering it from Australia. Mate of mine has sleep apnea and he has the full on AUD$1000 real deal from the dentist. He didn't notice much difference until he went up North for a few days on business and forgot to take it with him. He reckons he really suffered through those three days. But before I sink AUD$1000 on what might not work I thought I'd try out the "cheap" version first: I don't really think AUD$195 is cheap. If that gives me even a 5% improvement then it will be worth me going for the full on treatment.

I got to wondering if anyone on a sleep apnea site might have actually tried SomnoGuard. If they have would love to hear about how that went. I will of course post my own results when I get mine. I keep in mind though that what works for one doesn't automatically work for another. But I'd still like to hear from those who have gone before me.

By the way, I tried Green Tea and that has increased my energy levels. I make my own drinks these days. In Korea green tea grows on trees, so no problems getting pure concentrated powder. I mix one tea spoon of Green Tea powder, with about four teaspoons of Blueberry Vinegar, one teaspoon of Lemon Juice, and one teaspoon of Stevia for sweetness, and then the rest is about 1.5 liters of water. One good thing about that is I end up drinking about 4 liters of water a day! Can't get enough of the stuff. If any of you have used Stevia you will know me for what I am, a nuclear rated sweet tooth! Praise God for Stevia, saved me from the clutches of the demon sugar! I be a righteous boy now, fair dinkum I am.

The other thing I've tried is PROVIGIL. That was pretty good stuff but so expensive! About USD$120 for 200mgx30 in Korea. I'm off it at the moment to see if I can do this with just Green Tea. Think I might have to go back on the PROVIGIL though, as when I was on it I rarely napped during the day. But I'll give it another week or so to see if my body adjusts. Then of course I want to try the SomnoGuard with nothing else to see what effect that has first.

Thanks again for reading my post, and hang in there guys, nothing can beat us if we point blank, bloody minded, refuse to let it do so. And you don't get much more stubborn than me  Wink

Take care!

Hi BikerKorea and Welcome!

Do you use a CPAP?  That would help you immensely since your apnea would be compensated.  What is your AHI?  And if you have PLMD, how many/hour?  As you know, they are disruptive as well.  You may need some meds. for your PLMD.  Be sure to be checked for anemia because that exacerbates PLMD.

As far as the SomnoGuard goes, put it in the Google search field on the left side and you will pull up all the posts about it.

Keep posting!!

Vicki

The Somnoguard is discussed in the Sleep Apnea Oral Appliance discussion message board located on this website.  It's important to not buy a cheap oral appliance, most of the time it doesn't work and messes up your teeth/jaw.  The good oral appliance like Somnomed (now Somnodent) and TAP (Thorton Adjustable Positioner) are well worth the cost.
