Post Chin Straps and Mouth Tape
Hi, I need to get a chin strap that works. I've been on cpap since 2001 and live in Australia. I ahve needed the chin strap since 2004 and the only one that I could find that worked to a certain degree was one made in Perth WA. I now only use it occasionally because it is too cumbersome and does not stay in place.

I now notice that there are now many more available then back in 2004 and I was wondering if someone could provide me with advise on which is the best. I need one that is adjustable, will not come loose and is not too intrusive.

Also I have seen mention of mouth tape, can i have some info on this. Mainly with regard to brand names where to purchase etc. It may be an option for me.

I use a resmed activa mirage mask

thank u in advance Idea

I have always used my own homemade chinstrap. I noticed (in my case) the mouth opening was caused by side movement of my jaw when I relaxed and the pillow pushed my chin toward the ceiling. I figured that most marketed chinstraps hold against up and down movement (trying to mouth breathe) but likely not so much side to side. I use an ace wrap, but I have seen pantyhose (or other fabric bands) used to good effect... none of which is something you'd like to be seen wearing outside the bedroom (lol), but I have found the ace wrap easy to ignore once I go to sleep... I just have to make sure it's not wrapped too tight. As a matter of fact, the pressure of it is very comforting, and is part of my nightly ritual, so that by now I feel naked sleeping without it! Also, you may want to touch your bottom molars to the upper set when adjusting so that your teeth interlock and can help stabilize your jaw. I am guessing that nothing that is low profile will provide the necessary support. Have you tried pad-a-cheeks? I have never used them, but they may help your current chinstrap or headgear work better for you. I would have used them by now but the ace wrap works and I just love low-tech solutions Wink

The chinstrap I use is simple a thick peice of elastic with velcro on one end.  I tighten it to fit from the crown of my head to under my chin.  Works very well.  Not sure who makes it, however.  I have tried those other types, that resemble little brazziers.  I don't like those types.

I tried several different chinstraps before I found the one that works for me...the Tiara Ruby.  It comes in 3 sizes with measuring charts found on the website of a number of vendors.  The sizing is true-to-size.
