Talk about brain farts!
Good thing brain farts do not smell, or my house would be unlivable.

Now are these all the occasional brain farts that we are listing, or are these a daily thing in one form or another, that happens several times a day?

My grand son and I spend friday and saturday at my daughters house to keep it up till they come back. well, this Friday,I filled the dehydrator with assorted vegtables for soup this winter, intending to empty it saturday afternoon, when we got there today to pick the tomatoes, the dehyderator was still full ,still running, I now have some of the dryest mixed soup veggies in the midwest.

Seriously, its a constant issue with me. I'm always buying a soda (diet of course) out of the machine and take it to my desk, only to find I have a nearly full one already sitting there. Other times I'll find myself halfway down the hall and realize I have no idea where I'm going or why. Worse, Coworkers will come up to me and continue a conversation they had with me earlier, but I have no idea what they are talking about - no memory of an earlier conversation. I'll have an idea, pick up a pen to write it down - and can't remember what the idea was one second later. I'll make a decision, only to be told that its the complete reverse of one I have no memory of making. My boss will ask me about work assignments I have no memory of getting. I won't even get started on focus and concentration issues.
I'm 51 and was getting a little frightened before I went to the doctor. I thought I was coming down with Alzheimer's, but he suspected OSA and confirmed it in the sleep study. Now I wonder if I'll recover any of the functionality I used to have - or have to be thankful if the deteriation just stops where its at. At work I don't think my boss is buying the OSA defence. I'm currently on the lesser of the company's two performance improvement programs, but I know I'm on a B line to a pink slip if things don't improve.

Hi SleepyDragon,
Your memory function will almost certainly improve once you get your OSA under successful treatment. I say "almost" because if there other contributing factors, such as restless leg syndrome or peripheral limb movement disorder, it might be a multi-pronged approach to treatment. Nonetheless it is possible get back to being your old self.
Don't give up, and do get all the documentation you can from your sleep specialist and/or doctor who ordered the sleep study. Make sure YOU get a copy of your full sleep study results (5-6+ pages with graphs, not just a 1-2 page summary letter). In the US at least, you are entitled to copies by law.
Giving you the pink slip while you are under a doctor's care for a treatable condition should NOT be allowed to happen. But it does happen, and all too often in my opinion, because employers are not very familiar with the symptoms of untreated sleep apnea and related disorders, or how serious an impact these can make in a person's daily function. Make it your job to teach your employer and to demonstrate that you are under a doctor's care to receive treatment. If you don't have a sleep specialist, please get a referral to one? One that is board certified if possible. (These doctors are often pulmonologists or neurologists as well.) PCP's and others can coordinate sleep studies and CPAP, but a sleep specialist is far better at providing information to your employer.
I don't know what level of law this is from, but in my area, a person who drives for a living (e.g. truck driver, cab driver) that has had a Dx of a sleep disorder, must provide documentation to their employer and to the department of motor vehicles on a regular basis (I think every 6 months?) that their sleep disorder is controlled. Otherwise their commercial license will be suspended until they can provide such proof. A sleep specialist here can provide an employer with everything necessary to educate your employer and provide them with status reports as you persue treatment.
If you have a significant other or trusted close friend that can help you, PLEASE consider getting them involved to help you get in with a sleep specialist (if you aren't seeing one already), and get the necessary paperwork for your employer's human resources department. Someone else who has the mental energy to take these tasks, can be a signficant help to you right now.
The antics of the sleep deprived can be quite funny (hence this thread!). It is my hope you will be able to come back to this thread soon, and post the one or two things that crop up in an otherwise successfully-treated apnea patient's life.
Please keep us posted on what is going on with you? Blessings,

Sleepy Dragon..I am the same as you though I am younger..and this is the reason I started this thread a while ago. Not just the once in awhile thing that everybody does..but the relentless fatigue and how it affects us on a daily basis. though thses mishaps can be laughed at, they are debilitating. I do say, things will improve with proper treatment..but I do have residual problems. Mine are not all from SA or the xPAP..but I do feel there has been damage done from my years of untreated SA.
I am talking down right mind boggling, relentless butt dragging fatigue..not being a little sleepy...but where one has automatic behaviors, sleep drunkenness, cognitive issues, trouble with concentration, memory issues that cause these things to happen every single day..over and over again. The one thing I have found to help a little is B12. B12 levels are within the normal range however blood work is not the best test and the US standars for B12 ranges are not the same as the rest of the world. People approaching their 60's with B12 levles in the middle of the range have shown signs of early dementia..per studies I have read.
GERD/ Acid Reflux often goes hand in hand with SA..and it is these stomach acids that break down our B12 causing B12 deficency..once your body loses the B12 it is gone and needs to be replenished somehow.
I do not know if others have read this entire thread..but I have done some doozies..and not listed all of them. I could probably end each day with a list of 'brain farts' that I have done that day! So far today I have 3 major ones.
Today so far.. I shredded bills that need to be paid and paid bills that have been paid already. I have lost my glasses several times. I took the clean clothes out of the dryer and put them in the washer and washed them again.
I think it is fun to see what others do so I hope y'all continue on with sharing the OOOP's of your days! Laughter can often be the best medicine...and it allows us to burn 20% more calories!

Thanks for the advice. I picked up a copy of my sleep study today (9 pages including the tech log) and made an appointment with HR. They say defence is the stronger part of war. We'll see.
Continuing our verbal flatuance ... I packed up my computer bag this afternoon and headed home to continue trying to catch up on my backlog in a more comfortable setting. Got home and pulled my NOTEBOOK (instead of my computer) from the case! I had put my notebook in my computer bag instead of my laptop. Now my notebook is about the same size as my laptop, but that's where the similarity ends. flflflflft (farting noise)! Looks like the backlog will be with me at least a day longer. The up side is I have no reason not to spend some quality time with the spousal unit tonight.

I paid my electric bill by writing my check for the balance in my checking account rather than the amount of the bill. Luckily, the lady called to ask about the amount of the check.

...cat litter in the washing machine
At least you didn't put the cat in the washing machine! LOL! Oh my, my sides are bursting too, and it's 5 a.m. - I can't sleep.
I can't tell you how many stupid things I've done between chemo brain, fatigue and 'narco brain' (pain meds for chronic back pain pre-pain pump). I always joke that my car knows the way and I go on 'auto pilot' - and that's fine, unless you're going the direction you normally go, but aren't actually GOING to where your car is determined to go :) and you end up taking the 'scenic route' to your original destination...and so on.

Had to respond and bring this thread up to the front.
Too funny.
And here all along I thought it was just me that had "episodes".
Things have gotten better after 2 months of CPAP...really better. I can't believe I remembered how to find this site again..lol.
I was losing my glasses and my ATM card on a regular basis. Usually both were found in the washing machine.
I routinely forgot if I had washed my hair in the shower and ended up surely washing it 3 or 4 times each day. I can't remember how many times.
The cat gained 2 lbs. since his last visit since I apparently was feeding him 3 times in the morning before I went to work. Again...lol..I don't remember. I have been told this by the man I live with...lol...he's my husband...(I think)...lol!
And on another funny note......never wash your mask parts in the kitchen sink and then let hubby run the garbage disposal.
But if you do.......duct tape makes a lovely plastic cap for your mask....just sayin'!
It's the "ghetto" CPAP.
