Post First Seven Days on CPAP Machine - Frustrating!
Hello,

I just thought I would share that I have been on a CPAP machine and nasal mask for six nights now.  I have the Remstar Auto M Series A-Flex.  The mask is the Respironics Comfortgel.  Probably like everyone els eon this site, I have not had what I would call a good nights sleep on many years.

My first week was a disaster!  I had heard from so many others that the mask and machine take getitng use to, so I determined to make it work, no matter what.  The aid who set me up with the machine told me that most people really struggle at first, but I was determined to be different.  Well, I am another stastistic!

To make a long story short, something just did not seem right wearing the mask and using the machine, but I wore it every night.  Some nights all night, some nights most of the night.  I could not describe properly to my wife what was odd, however I was sure finding that it was not going to be a walk in the park.  I was having a very hard time sleeping and actually feeling worse the next day.

Cutting to the chase, I found out today that my low or starting pressure setting was set too low.  It was 5, which I guess is okay for most people, however in my case I was actually depriving my body of o2!  No wonder I was sleeping so poorly - I was having a hard time breathing starting out and anytime during the night that the pressure would drop.

The tech has rasied the presure to 6, which feels MUCH more comfortable.  Tonight will be my first night at this setting and I cannot wait!

I just found this forum today.  I am looking forward to learning more and participating!

Thanks.

EW

I wonder if your fixed pressure is now 6, if so the starting or ramp pressure will be less but you should try starting at full presssure as some find this easier

it helps to lie relaxed and comfortable in bed any way you like, dont lie stiffly to attention, but relax and take deep slow breaths using the full pressure, this helps to bring sleep

do carry out the resizing procedure mentioned in the instructins, it helped me a lot, assuming its a nose only mask ask wife if you are breathing thru your mouth when asleep, a common problem for new users

Post same thing
Keep working at it! IT took me a while to adjust to the cpap, one thing I found to be helpful was to start the machine without the ramp. I find it is easier to go to sleep with it this way
