C-Flex CPAP Machine

Post C-Flex CPAP Machine
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea over the summer.  I received my CPAP machine on August 11.  My DME did not have a full face mask that seemed to work so I went home with out a mask.  I did have a mask that was given to me by the sleep lab that I started to use.  However, that mask was very difficult to adjust on face because of it leaking.  I finally got my new mask on August 22 and the leeking mask has been greatly reduced.

So I have been trying to use my Remstar M CPAP with heated humidifier for now 22 days.  During that time I have had 7 nights where I acheived greater then four hours but most of those nights were in the first few weeks.  For the last week I have been having a difficult time acheiving 4 hours.

Some of the reason is probably getting used to the facemask.

My machine was set up to a pressure of 14 and the C-Flex function was enabled.  I don't use the ramp function because I don't find the pressure to be bad so when I go to bed I jsut turn it on to full pressure.

The thing since I got my machine that was anoying was the C-Flex function.  I learned to set it to one to be the least annoying.  Well last night in the middle of the night I had enough and went seraching on the internet to find out about the C-Flex function.  I found how to get in the clinician menu (I know I probably shouldn't do it) and I turned the C-Flex off.  I went back to bed and only slept a few hours before I had to get up for work and found the that with the C-flex off, I was more comfortable.  I slept for about 1.5 to 2 hours this way and it seemed to be a deep sleep (maybe because I was just really tired).

Is it possible that the C-Flex doesn't work?  Or at least it doesn't work for me?  I am a heavy breather so could the pressure drop have been so much that the CPAP wasn't working?  Since i don't find any bennifit of the C-flex, why should I have it on?  Is there any health bennifit in turning it off?

Also, another concern that I have is I seen post that this CPAP machine isn't the best and could my heavy breathing make this CPAP not work for me?

I am getting frusterated but I am going to beat this!

Huh, don't body wants to give me their opinion on C-Flex.

Anyway, last night wasn't the best night of sleeping but I did hit 4 hours with the CPAP.  It was the first time in a week that I hit that threshold.

The one problem I am running into with C-Flex turned off is mask leak.  I need to tighten my mask more to prevent leaking.  It just makes it more uncompfortable.

some do better with the cflex turned off so keep using it that way

getting the mask adjusted is trial and error, made more difficult because most new elastic straps stretch in use, make adjustments lying in bed, also pull mask slightly away from face and let seal back, this helps reduce leaks

I had a good night last night.  I felt like I kept it on most of the night.  C-flex is staying off.
My wife did make a comment this morning about me getting up at least 4 times through the night and she thought I had a bad night.  Actually I had a good night even though I got up that much.

One Respironics xPAP gives as good therapy as another. When we complain about the Plus its only because it can only provide compliance data rather than being full data capable. That has NOTHING to do w/the quality of the therapy this device can provide. Most of us just prefer the fully data reporting capable devices. We just don't care for "flying blind" so to speak.

Some do need C-Flex, and Ramp, some don't need or want either. They are just comfort options. GLAD to hear you had your best night yet. Patience, Persistence and a Sense of Humor will get you thru this adjustment period. You'll be ever so grateful for your CPAP in due time. We might have to give you some assistance on mask fitting, adjustments and exchanges. Heck, we've all been thru this stage.
