Post Mouth randomly fills with air no matter what type mask I use
Question:   I have tried nose piece, nose piece with chin strap and mouth/nose piece and have the same recurring problem. My mouth will suddenly and unexpectedly  fill rapidly with air , expanding my cheeks and exiting through my mouth.      Crying or Very sad  I think the base of my tongue is blocking the air movement but am not sure.  I also get ear pressure similar to taking off and landing in an airplane.     I am taking my mask off within an hour even when highly sedated so compliance is becoming a real issue. Any idea what is going on and a solution?????  Question  I think it's related to my jaw position but not sure.

My mouth fills with air too when the machine is on.  Not sure why it does that. My mouth will be closed but as it gets more air because I have a ramp it fills up with air. I wish I could help you but I would like to know why too.  Do we have the pressure to high???

Wondering what type of mask are you using, it sounds like you might be a mouth breather at least a little anyway maybe you need to go with a full face type mask? or a Hybrid or Liberty type of mask, the airway in your nose and the mouth are connected, You can breathe thru both. It is not all that unusual to have your cheeks  puff up, especially if your nasal passages are blocked or if you have lots of sinus congestion. You might want to talk to your sleep doctor about it, especially if it is affecting your ears and making that uncomfortable, you might need to see an ENT and be evaluated. Sorry I can't be of more help, Good Luck to You

The same thing happens to me. I tried the nasal pillows mask and chin strap, but it still happens because I think my jaw slides back, making the chin strap ineffective.

Now I'm on the full-face mask, which puffs my cheeks out when I fall asleep and my jaw relaxes, which allows the air to seep through my mouth. And I can't use the chin strap because the mask won't seal properly. Without the chin strap, the seal leaks once my jaw relaxes and moves.

If you find out anything, will you please post?! I'm going to a new sleep doctor next week, because my old one doesn't think I have a problem and that I'm just not compliant! But I really, really want the CPAP to work so I can feel rested for once in my life!!

Good luck to you!
